What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Lovely painting @gennepher

The only time we had a problem with the bigger cat (Jimmy) was when we tried to travel with him using a cat basket. We took him with us from Dumbarton to Canterbury and he protested loudly for quite a long time, before ripping the basket apart and climbing out. He then settled quite happily on the rear windscreen shelf of the VW we had then. On the way home, we bought a new, stronger crate and gave him a sedative suggested by a Canterbury vet. It just made matters worse; the sedative was not strong enough and he howled and howled. Then proceeded to demolish the new crate. He travelled the rest of the way on the back shelf. That's when we decided to train him to walk on a lead.

I think the same would be for Midnight!
Which is why I am going down the harness route @Annb

Hi@jjraak it’s not just porridge it’s everything I eat containing carbs for instance we have been out after breakfast until 2.pm I had.A soft Bread roll with bacon on it two hours later my BG reads 15.5 I don’t seem to be able to eat anything lately that contains the smallest os carbs. Doctor has put me on Gliclizide 1x 40mg per day only been on it about 2 weeks maximum if that. It’s obviously not working I have a diabetic review on 17th November I will bring this up with her and see what she says, up to recently I’ve been diet controlled only not had any problems I think my pancreas has given up completely. I’ve been type2 now for around 22years so it’s possible do you think.K

BG this morning @7am was 7mmol
BG after lunch was 15.5 after a soft bread roll with bacon on. K
BG before evening meal was 4.2
BG 2 hours after evening meal was 8.3 beef and vegetables casserole spoon of mash potatoes cup tea.

As you might have noticed from past posts, I can't eat anything without insulin and even then, carbs are likely to cause a spike. My one slice of bread this morning did just that (15.5 two hours later). On other days, it wouldn't be that much of a problem, so it seems I fluctuate from day to day. You may be doing the same thing. Perhaps you could find a way of getting to zero carbs for a day or so and see if that helps. Zero carbs is not easy - in fact, I don't think it's possible so what I mean is zero overt carbs (wheat, oats, rice, potato, corn, rye, root veg and so on). There will still be some carbs even in green, non root, vegetables and in protein products. Dairy products as well. This way you could see if your T2 can be managed by diet or whether you need extra medication.

Of course, you may find zero carbs too challenging, in which case you could talk to your doctor about increasing the medication you are on. For me, there's no real alternative. I was put onto insulin, supposedly temporarily, and never could come off it again. Even large doses of it doesn't really control my BG. It has, however, dropped from the 15.5 earlier to 7.7 which, for me, is very good. Only because I just put up with being hungry and refused to eat anything else until this evening.

Your doctor could do a blood test to see if you are producing any insulin. If not, then you aren't T2, you are T3/LADA or something different. Can't for the moment remember what the blood test is called, but I'm sure someone on this forum could tell you.

@Annb i’ve recently had a fasting bloods test done I go for my diabetic review next week on 17 November but apart from Lipids my print out of that blood test was all ok no action except for lipids when they commented that I make appointment with nurse so I did. K

The test I'm thinking of isn't part of the normal tests done. It looks specifically for signs that you are producing insulin, or not. You would probably have to ask for it specifically. I did, and the doctor I saw didn't even know that such a test existed. He did order it for me though. That's how I found that I do produce plenty of insulin, just not enough to make my daft system take any notice. Wish I could remember what it is called. HELP somebody out there, more knowledgeable than me!

I think the test you are thinking of is the C-Peptide test (https://www.ucsfhealth.org/medical-tests/insulin-c-peptide-test) but I stand to be corrected before going on I'm a celebrity, making an apology of sorts and trousering the dosh. I'm a resident of West Suffolk - don't know if that is relevant.

That's the one Ian. Many thanks.

@Granny_grump, that's the test I meant. Worth having a look at the site Ian has indicated above. You might have to make special arrangements and you might have to point your doctor to that website, if he/she doesn't know what it is, like the one who saw me.

Your liver enzymes could still be out the doctors are not testing as they did formally.
High GGT is a sign of metabolic syndrome.

@lindisfel Upto Covid I was tested regularly but not had blood test since Covid and I ended up requesting it myself but surprisingly things seem ok no action required on my doctors print out of my last fasting blood test, but a request to make appointment with nurse concerning my Lipids level Serum cholesterol 5.7 serum triglyceride 0.8 serum HDL cholesterol 1.88 LDL cholesterol 3.5 serum cholesterol HDL ratio 3 non HDL cholesterol 3.8 normal thyroid function. K. Will ask about C- peptide test next week when I go for review.

I think C peptide has to be sanctioned by a consultant but you can try.

Lovely painting @dunelm.

From the nighttime wildlife trail cam...
This badger who I call KissyKissy because it is always is trying to make nose to nose contact with cat, Midnight.
And Midnight is making his feelings crystal clear.

Cat & Badger (cat hisses at badger)

Creative today is a digital painting in Procreate of autum.

Yesterday, I was in the Polish shop with my phone, translating some different foods I was interested in. I am looking for some different foods with my diabetes in mind. And for the problem I have a severe reaction to rapeseed oil. Came home with a bit of stuff. Start trying them out today...

Time for a cuppa c(_) or two c(_)

Have your best possible day...

Thank you @ianpspurs and I quite like sepia photographs - ta!
