Creative - a white butterfly hatched out yesterday. But only one wing unfurled. It was on the ground flying around in circles. So I picked it up, placed it on to a Nasturtium. But when I went back out, it was on the floor again. So I picked it up again, and it didn't want to leave my hands, but eventually it got on a Nasturtium stem. And I took a photo and wrote a haiku. And I never saw it again...

Haiku:
butterfly
dreams of flying
only one wing unfurls

Have your best day.

Beautiful thoughts for the butterfly, haiku and photo. Hug for not sleeping well.

In cricket terms.
It always snows somewhere in the uk on the first day of the season!I

6.7 today but I have been and are busy with lots of chores, shopping was done earlier, so I can mow after the footie resuit's later.
DVD to set up, seems straightforward! And that is where me and technology don't have an understanding!

It is a beautiful day again, however around 11 am, there was a cloudburst, lasting about ten minutes, as I was tidying outside, it became as a shock but within minutes the cloud moved, revealing clear blue sky and a heat from the Orange globe in the sky that was very hot!

Must get on, there is washing, dishes, lunch and anything else that needs doing before 3pm!

My best wishes to you all as always, have a wonderful weekend!

I forgot about our Prima Donna squad having a go today, I might watch or listen!

I hope it stays warm enough for you Ian and that the moans of those of us who dislike heat don't prevail upon the weather men(kind). People deserve some good weather for a change, although when it is hot and dry we (and others in different parts of the country) tend to have wildfires springing up on the moorland about 1/4 mile away from us. Heather burns so easily when it is dry. Nothing like what has been experienced in hotter parts of the world, of course. My late husband's sister - a Jehovah's Witness - insists on putting it all down to the end of the world as anticipated in the teachings of her faith. It makes discussions of any serious subject very difficult - like making your way through a minefield.

Your comments were interesting Ann, most Christian based belief systems believe in Christ's second coming with perhaps the exception the Unitarians and the Quakers?

Where the Jehovah's witnesses differ is that despite what they say, they are not Christ centred in their faith. Nine men in New York State claim to be God's Channel on Earth and the Faithful and Discreet composite 'slave' of Jesus Olivet prophecy. So the members believe what they say to the letter, hence many do not achieve their full potential in education being stopped from University Education.

Fires are often lit by man in this country and they are often lit on purpose by gamekeepers to improve the feeding for grouse to maximise Red Grouse production. When the fire gets into the underlying peat it cannot be easily put out and can reignite.
Best wishes
Derek

Smashing butterfly and thanks for the Hauku. Sweltering over this side today.

Yes, I have realised that, although Jehovah's Witnesses use scripture to confirm their beliefs, they do not really centre their faith on Christ. Their faith is in the doctrine handed down by their elders. It is, as a result, very difficult to discuss anything happening in the family or in the wider world without bringing these beliefs to the fore. Those of that following that I know are sincere in their beliefs and try to convert as many as possible from the best possible motives. I get that, really I do, but I really would like the opportunity to discuss things on a level that is meaningful to me once in a while without saying something that will bring forth a torrent of beliefs that I cannot accept. My SIL has every right to her beliefs but what she doesn't see is that I, and others, have that same right. It takes a lot to hold a family together in these circumstances. The glue, in this case, of course, is love of family members for all other family members.

Here, fires may only be lit on moorland up to the end of May. At that time the peat is still quite wet and there is sufficient rain to put out any fire that spreads beyond the required limits. From June onwards, moorland may not be fired on purpose. This protects young wildlife which might not escape the flames and reinvigorates the heather to improve its food value. We do often see moorland fires in the summer or autumn though and these are either lit accidentally by campers, illegally or are wildfires which somehow self-combust. Once a wildfire gets going, it has a habit of travelling through the peat under the turf which may have been put out or damped down. The strong winds we get here usually, don't help in such situations.

Sorry you are unwell, if a little better than a month back. Hope you continue to improve. Is 7.7 a reasonable reading for you?
The unwellness has passed and I hope to get better numbers now, thank you, Annb.

7.7 is a little higher than my usual these days, and a lot higher than my "once upon a time" levels. However, fasting numbers are the hardest to control, so I guess it's reasonable.

At 5.30 am was a beautiful clear nighttime sky with fairy dust sprinkled all over it. I had to go outside to sort something in the dark, because of the impending heavy downpour the weather app promised at 7am. I didn't have one ounce of strength last night to do it. The heat had wiped me out yesterday. It is now 6 am as I am beginning to write this, and heavy clouds are rolling in....

Now 6:16 am and the promised rain is falling...my container veg garden needs it...

Yesterday, a lot of butterflies, mostly whites. And for my Creative, this Peacock butterfly came along. Fortunately I still have flowering Buddleia. The Buddleia I do not prune until spring is the later flowering one, can be still flowering small bunches of flowers in December, and obviously then, the seeds are left on that tree for the birds all winter. It is in the back garden where I can watch the sparrows feeding from the seeds.

Looks like Sunday will start an ok sort of day but with the temperature dropping in Cumbria already.
We will be on YouTube watching the local church output this am.

We've been getting deposits of dust several days last week, apparently everybody's been out washing their cars. The opinion is it has come from the Sahara.

Last night at the Proms I thought poor this year, gender over compensation and the BBC had not got the level of the singing correct it was too low compared to the music.

Ukraine did well in the football and although it was a draw England were not reassuring in their performance.

Guests this afternoon, including the "birthday girl". I heard yesterday that she has just been diagnosed with cancer on both her kidneys and her pancreas. Surgeons are hoping to remove one kidney, part of her pancreas and her spleen. She also has a heart problem and, as we knew already, diabetes. She certainly doesn't have her problems to seek! I'm pleased but surprised to hear that, at 78 today, she is considered suitable for surgery.

Anyhow I have made her a birthday cheesecake which is fairly diabetic friendly (does include some oats in the base, but not much) and the only sweetness comes from blackberries. I did try making a new recipe with oats but I'm giving up on that idea, I think. It turned out just to be like cold porridge with some nuts and fruit through it. OK for a breakfast, if you like oats for breakfast, but not a teatime treat. We'll have a birthday afternoon tea for her but there will be things that other people can eat as well.

BG ar 4 am was 7.4 but has risen now to 8.9. That'll sort itself out when I have my bacon and egg breakfast.

Not very warm here today (10 degrees and cloudy with a chance of rain later). It should warm up a bit but only to about 13 degrees, if that. I don't like it too hot, but could do with, maybe 16 or so. Never mind, just put on an extra layer and all will be fine. Just going to fetch an extra layer.

Lovely butterfly and bonus garden watering

Good morning everyone on what may or may not be a warm/hot/cool/wet/dry/breezy/still day here in the dark and dangerous north. Very hot yesterday, even at 10am down at the Farmers Market. Lots of tourists pouring into the town and the usual resulting congestion. Best to stay away from the sea front and have a walk in the woods. Less people, cooler air. Very hot in the afternoon from what I could see from the relative coolness of the dining room. I could see Mrs Miggins puffing and panting with her lawnmower antics through the partly open french doors and as she watered all the plants towards dinner time, I did wonder if it will rain later today. Maybe. Think I’ll wash the car this morning, that will surely encourage rain - it’s either that or more naked dancing whilst blowing whistles and banging on drums. The car washing is much more acceptable to the neighbours for some strange reason. People tend to get so offended by the least little things nowadays. Art bit, a few more strokes of the ink pen. Hope your day is a delicious one. I really do need to drink some koffy.
