We just did a very early morning walk around our small local fen which is only a 5 minute walk from our house. We walked by the stream under the shade of the trees. It was much too hot to go anywhere else today. The dogs have spent the rest of the day in the coolest spot in the house.are walks off in the heat and humidity today? Mr K will have enjoyed the rugby result - even Borthers smiled.
It is really scary how fast the tide comes in. Quite a few people have to be rescued by the RNLI. You were lucky that Chesney came to the rescue - especially as he was so knowledgeable. Was recalling with a friend how in 1956 we went to Norfolk birding and I think stayed in C.T.C approved accommodation and were using our bikes.
I wanted to explore the coast fully and we went to Brancaster and I was not at all good at doing risk assessments. We left our bikes down from the harbour (bikes were safe then you could leave them unlocked) . it was my intention to cross the marsh and go across to Scolt Head the barrier Island in North Norfolk's unique geography.
Anyway the tide was out when we crossed the creek in our wellies. It seemed a rather large deep creek! At 17 I was up for it. No worries we got through the mud and across. There was a big Ternary which we had gone to see, full of Common and some Arctic terns. I can't remember seeing a wardens hut then! The tide eventually started to run and it was a big afternoon tide...there looked to be a lot of water, it filled that creek to the top and we were cut off. It wouldn't be fun crossing that creek in the dark. I had got my friend into a difficult situation.
What saved the day was Chesney the warden who came across in his boat to see who was disturbing his terns. He asked us the question as to when we thought we would get off? He showed us his terns and pointed out the Arctics from the Commons. He told us how his dad had protected them in the war from practice bombing, by running around the ternary waving his hands in the air to stop them bombing the birds.
He kindly took us back to the harbour, it was a relief.
I think there is a wardens hut on Scolt Head now with a cobbled compass nearby done by warden Chesney but you East Anglians have probably been there and seen it.

Had to look up Banbury cake - pretty similar to an Eccles cake is it - all those sugar coated fliesOvercast all day and it rained in the afternoon. Temperature pretty low all day as well and even cooler now.
Guests came - a bit late but the afternoon went well. The birthday girl arrived with profiteroles which somebody else had given her and she decided to have just one -"shouldn't do her diabetes much harm". She had her cheesecake (I'd made individual ones instead of one big one) and that went down well. Lots of stuff left over which I'll get Alistair to take away tomorrow.
I had a Banbury cake and it was really good. Put my BG up but for once it'll be allright. Hasn't gone down yet though.
Very similar to Eccles cakes but with as slightly different mixture of fruits. Very sweet and finished off with a sugar coating. Bad for BG but just the one won't do much harm in the grander scheme of things. But I have to get Alistair to take the rest away to avoid me being too severely tempted.Had to look up Banbury cake - pretty similar to an Eccles cake is it - all those sugar coated flies
There is only likely to be one outcome from operation mayhem. Save your energy, give in graciously and offer to retire to the koffy shop so Mrs A J can shop at leisure and in peace. The element of surprise is invaluable..Keep your powder dry, it is a marathon not a sprint. There will be other, more winnable, times and places.Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen just, no not just ladies and gentlemen it’s just still morning.
My blood sugars this morning were 6.5 which I was very happy with.
At 8:35am I was wandering into a builders merchant to purchase some wood for an on going and seemingly never ending project me, me’s and myself have been asked to make, this will explain why I wanted slightly elevated blood sugars.
By 9:00am I was unloading the car, of course Mrs J was oblivious to all this and still in her pit / lair.
All this early morning activity is very good, but now I am totally exhausted and need to rest up, but Mrs J has booked this early afternoon nap time for a visit to some huge warehouse the other side of Reading, my task to protect my bank balance is take items out of her shopping trolley when she is not looking, question every item she puts in her trolley and generally behave in such a manner Mrs J will want to leave abandoning the expedition. Wish me luck.
Stay safe all.

Your art bit is brilliant @dunelmGood morning everyone from a bright and glistening start here in the dark and dangerous north. The rain dancing worked! Not only a downpour but lighting and thunder thrown in for free. That must have been because of a late Pastafarian prayer; “ Our pasta, who art in a colander, draining be your noodles…” and all that stuff. Either that or umbrella sales increased dramatically during the course of the day. Really hot again yesterday though. Road closed for the annual hill climb - lots of vehicles lined up for the race. Just a bit of fun - wonder if electric vehicles will be winning as they go very quickly without all those lumps of metal in the works to slow things down. Art bit - a few trees and buildings added. Hope your gardens are now watered. I really do need to finish my koffy.
Does the pony and cart still take people to the island?I wish to subscribe to the department of not taking your spouse to somewhere that will harm your wallet club please?
6.1.
Rained at last around 9pm. Not much! Obviously after watering was done!
A tad cooler today, but still quite warm for September. Currently 19 degrees ambient temperature, 22 degrees thermometer!
A couple of hours before appointment with council official! After deliveries yesterday. Hoping for a good outcome!
Will report back later!
On the north east of the peninsula there is West Kirby, in the close proximity of the town in the river Dee is the Hilbre Islands. And if you don't realise when visiting across the sands, that the tide has turned. You may find yourself stranded or wanting the local RNLI.
Hug for the sleeping, shopping and driving experiences. Winner and thanks for the amazing photo. I hope and pray you enjoy a coffee and a nice sleep.Fbg 6.9
Much much too hot for me, and Midnight...
Impossible to sleep last night. Gave up in the end, went and sat on the swing with Midnight, despite the wild beasties of the night. I could hear some beasties scattering when I flung open the door into the night air. It is MY garden...I needed that cold air. The night sky was clear. Not a beast stirred in the night...

I have driven to do my shopping early this morning. And coming back off the bypass, 70 mph, there was suddenly a new sign saying 20 mph...obviously I was slowing down anyway, but neither me nor the traffic behind me were expecting that sudden 20mph at that point. My Sat Nav said it was 30 mph at that point, my phone said it was 20 mph at that point. So I erred on the side of caution, 20 mph I did. Within a minute there was one hell of a queue of traffic behind me. I half expected someone beeping or overtaking me but no one did. There should have been a gradual decrease in speed of the road signs, not 70 mph to 20mph. Wales has gone mad.

A photo in the rain of some wild flowers in my garden. I have forgotten the name.
I badly need sleep now. One shop I had gone in, and I didn't notice until I got to the till, that there were no cashiers. Just self service tills. Oh no. I was ready just to drop my basket on the floor and walk out, it did have eggs in it. But a store lady came up to me. I will help you she said. So she started helping me, but then left me. I had said I couldn't hear what orders the self service till was barking at me. And of course there was a problem. The till is barking instructions at me. I look for the lady but she is helping an elderly gentleman who had Parkinson's. Shop Assistant comes back, oh it is okay she says, just the till being slow and giving the wrong instructions, and she presses some buttons and whips me receipt out...see you again she says. NOT I mutter under my breath...
I am disabled, as many people are, and it takes all my energy to do my shopping, and it takes me awhile because I am checking ingredients because of things I am allergic to. I do not have the energy to to scan ingredients by the time I have completed my shop. In any case I cannot hear the instructions the till is barking at me in that robotised voice which my cochlear processor cannot make head nor tail of...
I have sat on the couch doing nothing since I came back, feeling somewhat useless. So tired.
I need coffee...
Have a good day...
