When there is a clear blue sky, it is possible to see a handful of silver birds with contrails crisscrossing the sky. A constant number throughout the day, and mostly not from John Lennon! The dolphin, when it leaves Hawarden which is often, is still low in the sky when it comes over my bungalow and it makes an almost right turn above me as it is climbing higher. A heck of a noise, but I like it! If there is no low cloud cover I can watch it turning. Then I follow it on my plane app to its destination...
But it doesn't come back the same route over mine, the descent route is different, and I never see that unless I am out driving by the border of England and Wales. Or if I am in the cafe, which is on the site, and you can see it coming up the runway...
On a fine summer's day, I sit in the garden, reading my book, and identify flying metal birds, and where their destination is.
I was in primary school during the Cuba thing. My dad, being a civil defence fella, was on full alert. He spent about a week getting ready to get the VIP's prepared to be installed in their bunkers!A guy who came to our former Open Brethren church emeritus group in Carlisle was an RAF Victor bomber navigator. He reckoned in the Cuban missile crises they all were loaded with Nuclear weapons sitting on the tarmac ready to go with engines running to go and drop there weapons the other side of the Ukraine and fly on till they ran out of fuel deep in Russia.
Brave young men but I guess that's why they had noisy take offs.
Thank you @dunelmSmashing photo, as usual, of the Rosa rugosa. Hope your energy levels are up for some art room sorting today.
Great beginnings ....Good morning everyone on another dull yet exciting morning here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.8 this am after some pretty good fairly low carb birthday cake made by daughter in law. No chance to really catch up - it’s pretty full on with grandchildren here but thank you all for your birthday wishes for not so little Miss Pamplemouse. We are all off to an indoor play area late morning. Mrs Miggins has booked the place for a party. The Ninky Nonks are already up and excited: “We are going down the big yellow slide grandad and our bellies will hurt.” - Crazy kids. Art bit, acrylic ink and a water brush. Hope your day is exciting as mine will be. Better load up on koffy.

I have some taurine capsules but I am being very careful about taking them - the idea is to help my tinnatus but when I tried taking one, I took it at night and my Libre kept on sounding an alarm that my BG was dropping too low, so I left it for another trial another time of day. However, my BG does seem to drop at night now - most nights anyway - so perhaps it wasn't the one taurine capsule that did it. Must get around to trying it again but this time, during the day.5.7 - I am so happy that I was still in the 5s this morning as we have to have our Saturday main meal in the evening so Sunday's fbg is always a lot higher.
We had a lovely walk around Sheringham Park in the sunshine. Mr K had bread pudding instead of a sausage roll in the cafe. Luckily it stayed dry until we got home.
Am very puzzled as to why taurine has been so effective at lowering BS and also has significantly strengthened my muscles in a very short time (actually it is normally not possible to strengthen muscles that quickly). It is especially puzzling as I possibly only have one symptom of taurine deficiency.
I started taking it to help my tinitus and I am really pleased that it has damped it down by about a third as it was getting worse really quickly prior to starting taurine.
Maybe they were just wandering around looking for a good place to feed, or moult or fully fledge, before their southward migration later in the year. Haven't seen any of the greylags in the last week - maybe they've moved on the better feeding grounds. The wonderful array of birdlife on our back footie field has been extraordinary this summer, which included two large flocks(?) of geese in their v formation today! Wether I have lost my sense of direction but they were flying north!
Now I know, that some of us haven't got a clue on seasons anymore but surely they should be going south?
Or do they know something I don't?
I think that you are really wise to be wary of the taurine while you are on insulin. I also used to get huge blood sugar swings while on insulin.I have some taurine capsules but I am being very careful about taking them - the idea is to help my tinnatus but when I tried taking one, I took it at night and my Libre kept on sounding an alarm that my BG was dropping too low, so I left it for another trial another time of day. BG this morning was a bit on the high side, but at the moment, I am struggling to get up into the 4's. I know why - I really fancied a crumpet this morning (shouldn't have done so, put my carbs too high for today). Anyway, I took extra insulin to allow for the extra carbs and it must have been too much. I think I have mentioned before "BG swings like ...." Still doing it.
Your produce looks so good @SlimLizzy17.09
7.30am FBG 5.8 no exercises this morning. Planning to get straight into some preserving. Have what seems to me immense amounts of produce from the garden. Mostly tomatoes,View attachment 63189 multicoloured, peppers which all seem to be spicy and cucumbers.
Pic is of the current crop of tomatoes ripening on the island unit. Yesterday I cooked all the ripe plum tomatoes and MrSlim made curry using about a kg of other red and brown ones and a few of the peppers. These are the remnants. Ripe toms are in the fridge except for the yellow fruit on the chopping board which are about to be chutney.
Looks a brilliant haul!17.09

That looks really interesting. I shall be taking a pill today to see what effect it might have. BG is pretty high this morning for some reason and Libre keeps telling me to do somethig about it. Exercdise class is off for a couple of weeks but I am hoping to do a bit more housework today. You never know - it might help me keep going for a bit longer.@Annb I wonder if taking taurine on the days you do your exercise class might be quite helpful and hopefully significantly reduce the muscle pain you are getting after the class.
I am finding it really helpful when I have to demonstrate an exercise over and over again class after class.
Have copied this article from google which explains how it works.
Taurine is an amino acid that comes from animal protein and has a protective effect on muscle fibers. If you’re not familiar with the term delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), you’ve certainly experienced it. DOMS is the muscle pain you feel after working a muscle in a new way, but it also manifests after intense muscle-damaging workouts. Eccentric motions, such as running downhill or doing slow tempo squats, are notorious for causing DOMS.
Taurine prevents DOMS by activating satellite cells that are responsible for the growth of new muscle fibers. Taurine also helps stabilize cell membranes that are injured by oxidative byproducts of exercise, protecting muscle fibers from damage. For example, supplementing taurine for 21 days at a dose of 3,600 mg for a 160-pound individual reduced DOMS and improved function at 48 hours after a muscle-damaging bicep curl exercise (2).
I guess this stuff interferes with meds @Krystyna23040?@Annb I wonder if taking taurine on the days you do your exercise class might be quite helpful and hopefully significantly reduce the muscle pain you are getting after the class.
