Yes, I have one which works very well - it is a gentle vacuum which lifts the spider so I can then put it outside. There was no time to do anything with this one though - it shot across the floor and under the bed before I could even reach for the spider catcher. I hate spiders! I've just sent away for some peppermint oil to spray around - spiders are supposed not to like to go anywhere near peppermint. The one I've ordered also contains citronella - a double whammy, I hope.
My mother always used the line "it's more frightened of you than you are of it." I disagree - spiders rely on instinct and don't have the imagination to be fearful. I have. My husband used to handle spiders quite happily and just let them climb onto his hand so he could put them out for me. My younger son is the same. But my Dad hated spiders and wouldn't touch them, and my elder son is the same, though he will catch them with a glass if necessary. I'm just a wimp, I know.
I saw an item on a TV programme in which an "expert" said that this is the time of year when spiders come in from outside looking for a mate. He suggested using peppermint oil or citronella to discourage them. That's why I've sent for some. They can do their courting outside if they're that way inclined - not in my house!
It’s house spider frisky season so there will be more about - they do live in buildings. I just leave them to it.Yes@Annb. It is spider time of the year sure enough! I have a couple of spider catcher gadgets placed within quick reach and encourage the spiders to walk inside then dangle them outside via the door or window. I can't bring myself to kill anything even wasps so rely on these gadgets and a lot of patience. The best thing is you can just place the plastic part over the spider and leave it there for a while and go back to it later. Before I had the spider catchers it was a case of covering with a clear glass, sliding thin, stiff card underneath then lifting at arms length but that took more courage! This is a copy of the spider catcher from Amazon. Oh I know and I do realise that it is a ridiculous phobia. But phobias are often ridiculous and there's nothing I can do about it. I don't actually like other creepy crawlies either but spiders are so ALIEN. I do think they are fascinating and amazing creatures but I can't even bear to look at them in pictures of any sort. I was always the same. From the age of about 3 I could not bear to look at my grandfather's "Science of Life" books which had illustrations of spiders. Maybe I have had a past life in which I was bitten by a poisonous one. No other explanation for it.I love spiders in the house they get any nasties one gets in old houses. Marjorie doesn't like them, if I see them I just move them rather than put them out in the cold and wet.
Life on Earth would be insect ridden without spiders. Spiders silk is a fantastic strong material.

I never had a phobia as such, even a test of the arachnids, because of the bomber out houses and vacant lots that advertising hordings which covered the front of the land blown up in the wsr, there was a lot of spiders etc around! But I would avoid them and just get on and not particularly worry about them.Oh I know and I do realise that it is a ridiculous phobia. Time with your grandson sounds fun. Glad the counselling went well. England weren't even 2nd there - abject performance.Forgot to mention before, had a splendid hour with grandchild number 8 this morning. I have renamed the near two year old walking disaster , into everything, after his favourite t.v. character, Ra Ra. Hence the name Ra Ra Ratbag! We had fun which dispelled my anxiety before counselling.
Counselling was about my reasons and expectations for the counselling, what I hoped to get from the service. Have the tools and skills to deal with situations. To be less anxious about the future.
It was an hour worth having!I
It has been wet but not windy today. Weather turning warm tomorrow. My late summer and autumn plants are flourishing after the amount of rain in the last week. The grass will need another full at the weekend.
Both next doors are doing DIY, and it has been very noisy! Think one of them is a prepper! An underground bunker or a dungeon for the kids!
England cricket lost!
Gonna cook now and watch darts and footie!
All the best wishes to you all as always!
You must have been reading about the Australian funnel web which you wouldn't want under your toilet seat.Oh I know and I do realise that it is a ridiculous phobia. That's why I'm glad I live in the Outer Hebrides. Everything is smaller here - cats, sheep, spiders and so on.You must have been reading about the Australian funnel web which you wouldn't under your toliet seat. There were some big spiders in California crossing the minor roads in the coastal mountains, they looked like tarantulas, very big and hairy.

Probably fazed by losing their best player to injury. But everybody should be replaceable.Time with your grandson sounds fun. Glad the counselling went well. England weren't even 2nd there - abject performance.
Those islands must have seen a wide spectrum of life over time. I was really taken by the white coral beaches that came about when the islands were in the tropics! That's why I'm glad I live in the Outer Hebrides. Everything is smaller here - cats, sheep, spiders and so on.
A bit before my time, I'm afraid. Those islands must have seen a wide spectrum of life over time. I was really taken by the white coral beaches that came about when the islands were in the tropics!

Checked the sd cards in the trail camera this morning and there was one fox (Foxy Loxy), and one badger (Boy Badger) about last night.
It was a foul night, deluge of rain, high winds with my trees battering each other wildly.
So, hopefully the other beasties will appear on the trail cameras in the next couple of days.
The stray cats are present and correct, but with the addition of a strange chunky grey striped tabby cat that I have only seen its rear end and tail so far...

Creative...no painting today, but I was looking in the front garden yesterday, and the beautiful green acorns with the pale cream crochet like cups I photographed some weeks ago, are now brown with brown cups holding the acorns. And the leaves are beginning to go brown....
Have your best day.
Coffee drunk, so a cuppa tea needed now.
