I heard a few weeks ago that the Western Isles council had suffered a cyber attack but never heard any more about it. DIL was telling me yesterday that whoever has stolen the data is blackmailing the council so that they have no access to their records. This means that, among other things, their payroll details have been lost so they don't know how much to pay workers whose hours differ from week to week/month to month. It's ridiculous. I can't understand how they don't have their data backed up in a secure system (ie not connected to the internet). The Scottish Government apparently gave councils extra cash to cover cost of living increases but our council has had to use that extra cash to pay experts to try to recover their data. We were discussing the need for backups a few days ago on this thread, and some weeks back when we talked about pharmacies depending on unreliable systems, but I never imagined that our council wouldn't have done anything to keep data backed up. I criticised our GP surgery a couple of years ago because they transferred all their patient data onto a digital system without either keeping the paper copies or a reliable backup (which of course, led to serious problems when the new computer systems collapsed and took weeks to sort out). There may be a reason for organisations allowing their systems to be vulnerable in that way, but I can't see it.

First impression is of a calm, if watery scene but then you see the touches of colour and the little house, then the boat being rowed across the lake, then that other person doing what? Fishing? Washing clothes? Intriguing.

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen, if I missed any others out, get real, life can be tough, good but tough.

Blood sugars this morning were 7.5 oh hum.

Talking of tough, Mrs J has muttered those dreadful words, beard trim and hair cut, that’s my chance at playing in a ZZ Top tribute band gone for another year. At my age its best to say if you have hair flaunt it.

Now it’s time to begone or is it be gone, best wishes to those suffering flooding, power outages and other such delights.

Hi @dunelm thanks for your concern. Fortunately the flooding locally seems to be confined to fields and farmland, although a few roads became temporary waterways.
Have been out of routine for a while, which includes posting here. ( note to self no more sleeping in until 10am...)
We travelled to UK for Christmas. Came back in a storm. Very windy making driving down the motorways a bit nerve racking. We had to take evasive action to avoid being sideswiped - very scary! Ferry crossing was rough , I did take a sea sickness prevention pill. Haven't needed one for a while, but with the ferry rolling as soon as we were in open water , seemed better to be prepared.
The vitaminD3 seems to be working. My appetite returned on boxing day, so was able to take full advantage of the feast on offer. Also seem to have more energy, have been out clearing up the greenhouse ready for planting- although I got seriously distracted by a jigsaw puzzle for a few days.
MrSlim has a very nasty cold, enough to keep him in bed for most of the day which is unlike him. Have a nasty suspicion it might be covid... but he won't take a test and anyway apparently home tests are not effective until day five. Is this true???
MrSlim did not have a covid jab when I did due to a mistake at the pharmacie.

Happy New Year to everyone. It's a big thing here in France. Many displays of cards in supermarkets. The French don't send Christmas cards. Or at least only a few.
Rebellion against the commercialisation (and cost) of Christmas has lead to a massive reduction in both cards sent and gifts given in our family.
 
5.8 this morning.
It has rained so much here. Our morning dog walk was a walk to the vet to pick up the tick and flea treatment.
There are plans to open a coffee shop and farm shop next to the vet which I am really looking forward to. Especially the coffee shop.
 
Morning all from a wet and breezy L.A on MIL's 94th birthday which basically means the rest of the day is so much froth though we do have some important business meetings planned . @dunelm and @gennepher thanks for sharing your art which are both wonderful - imho among my favourite. @SlimLizzy hug for Mr Slim and the crossing but winner for the effects of the D3. I caught a thought for the day type talk last Saturday which suggested leaving decorations up until Feb 2 so no rush.

We run a wide ranging entertainment business which happens to includes a premier league football club. Ange seems to understand the business model. Wrong Jurgen right nationality.

Hugs for the bad crossing, evasive action and MrSlim being unwell but good that the vit D3 is helping and that you are not flooded out. The River Charente, burst it’s banks so my parents couldn’t get to the supermarket for a few day but their house is high enough from the river and built on a flood plinth. I think you take a covid test if you have symptoms and after 5 days if no symptoms but you feel that you may have it.

I will not describe my townie surroundings.


However, in the seventies, I was asked to build steering columns for Morgan vehicles. They used the same column as the Firenza, with different indicators and steering wheel, but built with the same lock mechanism.

I had forgotten all about that till you mentioned it Derek.
And Keswick is a favourite place of Mrs L. We have stayed in that area a few times.
