On Wednesday the bird station was busy all day, but this evening nothing stirred, in marked contrast with the night before.Thank you @gennepher for sharing another fascinating nighttime video and a teasel kaleidoscope which I rather like too.
Our next door neighbours are having work done this week. From 8.30 am onwards there was a heck of a racket going on and I feared the noise would scare off any wildlife in the vicinity, but I need not have worried.
Two fox cubs paid us a visit first thing this morning, birds have continued to feed at the bird station as per normal, a very well-nourished frog was observed this afternoon (the largest individual I've encountered since the spread of red-leg syndrome) and this evening, just before 9.00 pm, a couple of wood mice darted out from under the hedge in search of dinner. Not long afterwards, as the light faded, a hedgehog could be seen busy foraging in the undergrowth. It could be heard grunting long after nightfall, as could sporadic yelps from the fox cubs!
Tuesday's FBG, 4.5 mmol on waking at 6.00 am.

Yesterday I had hosed a small area of our parched garden and that would have brought some of the wriggly wrigglers to the surface. That could account for some of yesterday's wildlife activity.
Wednesday's FBG, 4.6 mmol on waking at 6.00 am.
For balance, you could always go for This or ThisIf I make it (late Oct) I've seen a 40th wedding anniversary present I would like JKP to buy me. She seems less keen. I could talk to our neighbour Corey, who says if we want anything just ask, to potentially see about saving postage. Could be awks if he's a MAGA supporter thoughMay fall foul of this so non runner
Possibly something to do with the stress of the last few days.A horrible 7.2 this morning.
They're just creepy and weird as hell. One referencing J D V and his couch could be funny. Good news on the water, thank you for the art and I loved the apprentice human touch. Goldilocks start to the weather here this morning. #1 son brought round two large h/g figs and a tray of 30 white eggs for £6 from a local producer yesterday so some things grow hereabouts. @JohnEGreen hug for the fbg but as @Annb says the stress of the last few days must be a suspect. @Annb hug for the Libre alarm timing. I hope leg day goes well and you can soon find a podiatrist appointment. Have as good a Thursday as you possibly can - go KJT. Hope not hate.
I like this copse of trees very much @dunelm and I love the touch of colour....Good morning everyone on a cool yet sunny start to a double dip bin day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.1 this a.m. Does having dinner a bit earlier help? Should we have our main meal of the day for lunch? It’s what we did during the week when I was at school; school dinner (2 courses) and probably just a sandwich for tea. Anyhow, out to lunch today so that will be the meal of the day. In Utah (part of the land of the free) they are now reenacting Fahrenheit 451 opening up jobs for ‘firemen’. Is that plusgood in Newspeak? Art bit - watercolour and ink. Apprentice human will be arriving soon so the day will be a smasher, hope yours is too. Time for a koffy and a sit in the garden.
They stopped the podiatry service for diabetic patients here as well @Annb5.7 at 03.45 today but by the time I was getting into the shower - about 06.00 - it was up to 8.3. I have my Libre set to warn me if BG is drifting above 8 so that I can stop it climbing into to 10's and 11's. It always seems to sound the alarm just as I'm in the middle of something.
Legs bandaging day today. Last week, because of the swelling due to not having bandages on for a week, the nurse asked me not to take them off on Wednesday night but to let her take them off today. That means my legs don't get to be properly washed at all this week (she might wipe them over before doing the bandages) but needs must. She also said I need to get my feet checked but I can't get an appointment with a private podiatrist and the hospital has stopped the podiatry service they used to offer for diabetic patients. Toenails are starting to grow in though, so I'll just have to keep on trying. At least I can still feel them, so that's a bonus.
Hug for the lack of services in your areas. The attached seems to be a sad summary of how we got here - taken from a longer piece here. I often add the whole article out of respect for the originator. They stopped the podiatry service for diabetic patients here as well @Annb
Yet my friend in Liverpool, the hospital podiatry service visit her flat for toenail cutting etc.
I think we need to be living in different parts of the country at the times needed to access all services we need...
Hug for the impact of summer on you in that presumably ill conceived bungalow. Winner for continuing to be uniquely and unambiguously you who produces and shares creatives such as today's.Fbg 6.8
Nighttime wildlife video
Fox & Badger watched by Cat
32 secs
Creative is ink painting using fingers and Kuratake pens & brushes...
Now I need a nap, been awake since early...
Have a good day.
Cooler outside here at the moment, but my bungalow is still full of very warm air with the doors being closed all night.....
None of the cats, not even even Midnight will stay in this bungalow during a hot spell. Even my cats from years ago would disappear for a period of time during a hot spell, and would not enter this bungalow, not even for food...
Why?
Does anyone else's cats do this during a hot spell of weather? I don't ever recall this ever happening when I lived in a house.
