Had a chat with Alistair about Guy Fawkes - he is very interested in history - and we agreed that we have a lot of sympathy for poor old Guido. It wasn't even his plot. He was just the expert mercenery that they brought in to bring the plot to fruition. Not very old either and a full time soldier. He withstood some really serious torture before he finally caved in and gave names of plotters to his torturers. The only blessing was that his neck broke as he hanged so it was a quick ending for him. Admittedly they were 17th century terrorists when life was pretty brutal and dangerous, especially for those who came anywhere close to the throne, but they did have a grievance that was not being addressed. Not that I approve, but there was some reason behind it.I do agree @JohnEGreen. We don't celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. I've seen too many life-changing injuries caused by dangerous fireworks in the wrong hands.
By imposing a strict ban on private firework sales, we could limit these incendiary devices to organised displays on specific dates in the calendar such as 5th November and New Year's Eve. Currently, the November noise nuisance lasts up to a fortnight causing distress to farm animals, pets and wildlife.
Monday's FBG 4.9 mmol/l on waking at 6.00 am.
It's such a good thing I did manage to get it under cover, Kiki came in soaking wet tonight.Well done you! Brilliant solution. Just as well to park the mower meantime though. Just think of the grass out front as a wildlife sanctuary.
Oh, yes! Still not mentioned it to MrSlim, too many other subjects under discussion.Great result - how resourceful you are. Must be a huge relief.
Thank you for sharing this imaginative scene @dunelm.Good morning everyone from another grey start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. Mainly unsupervised yesterday as Mrs Miggins meets up with old school pals for a natter on Monday mornings. She then has picking up The Girl In The Bubble (GITB) from school at 3 and then stays over to take her to school on a Tuesday morning - mum and dad leave for work quite early and it’s a good arrangement. Son in Law’s grandparents also help of course on other days of the week. GITB will be 5 in a couple of weeks so there will be a gathering together of the grandchildren and other miniature humans I expect. Art bit - doodle, doodle - here you go. Hope your day goes as well as can be expected. We will have a walk through the woods in a while. But first, some koffy.
Baked yesterday, sultana Treacle cake and ginger cake, both still completely intact. Did think of buying wine, but resisted, and biscuits, but no, in the end bought a different type of sliced bread, 40g carbs per 100g. And a jar of peanut butter. 95.8% peanuts some oil and slightly sweetened with sugar.Yippee! Oh now that does call for celebratory beverage and at least one large slice of something nice.
All the best for JKP today.Morning all from a bleak L.A. where events elsewhere mean hanging onto this is hard but essential. Thank you @JohnEGreen for originally sharing. JKP has her colonoscopy today and we all three have coughs and sneezes. The wild boar may have come into the vineyard and looks set to root out the vine, goodness knows how the temple will be defiled but as bleak as Friday, ok Wednesday, may be, Sunday's coming: that's the Advent hope. @SlimLizzy great self restraint in avoiding those cakes, not buying wine and keeping your success from Mr Slim. I hope you find a solution to the care of Kiki. Enjoy your day everyone and if it isn't too needy to ask your thoughts and prayers for JKP and for the U.S of A wouldn't go amiss.
Thank you. #1 son has just taken JKP to hospital but had a tale of woe to tell. His daughter was in hospital with a chest infection Friday evening but anti-biotics and steroids were given and she is back at school. His son fell also at a firework display the same evening, damaged his knee which has been a long term issue, Dr instantly diagnosed Osgood Schlatter's disease which his dad had as well when younger. Bleak House but shares are upAll the best for JKP today.
Thank you for the good wishes @alf_Josiah. I have tea, avocados, keto bread and eggs for poached egg on smashed avo so what could possibly go wrong? High calorific food? you know the mantra here, we don't count calories we count carbs. I'll try my best to keep the mob from your door but no promises.Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen, whoops Mrs J has arisen there and I must away to make her morning mug of tea, back to finish posting in a few minutes……back now.
Blood sugars this morning were a straight 6 and I’m not going to test again.
Colonoscopy, I’ve had a few over the years and I describe them as taking a picture of the back of the teeth from the long way round. In my humble opinion the worst part is the clearing out of the bowel. I do hope all goes well in the realms of @ianpspurs and others going through times of trouble.
Now I am running out of time, I have places to be, things to do and no energy to do them, should I indulge in high calorific fodder or not. Best not.
Have the best day you can and remember to smile.
Tapadh leat, John. I hope that's not too informal since we are some kind of cousin. Just in case of offense: tapadh leibh.
Been praying for you and JKP for many months. Don't know if it has been of any help but I hope for good results today. Extra thoughts and prayers coming your way. USA - yes a sigh and a prayer or hundreds. I had thought "They couldn't, could they?" But they did. I thought that as well, a long time ago, in a UK context, but we did. I'm obviously a terrible judge of how people will choose.Morning all from a bleak L.A. where events elsewhere mean hanging onto this is hard but essential. Agree there - the colonoscopy itself isn't bad - it's the preparation for it that is the worst.Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen, whoops Mrs J has arisen there and I must away to make her morning mug of tea, back to finish posting in a few minutes……back now.

Tom's ancestor was not Alexander himself, but his brother. But the connection is there. So you are related to me and to my husband. Nice!No need for formality no offence could possibly be taken.
As to family connections you mentioned Alexander Selkirk a while back well I just added him to my tree yesterday.
Fbg this morning 5.8.
Thank you for all your prayers. They will have helped, there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. Hug for the feeling of not being a good judge of people. Does make one go back to the unfashionable idea that we are all deeply sinful and drawn to false gods - we make awful choices with our free will, starting with listening to the serpent. Prevailing view of all humanity as essentially good doesn't stand up to the taste or sniff test - observable reality totally belies that. We swallowed the self help, Snow Patrol (we'll do it all on our own) mantra whole. With DJT the cui bono question is very relevant. Himself, Musk and fellow billionaires certainly, Netanyahu and Putin - anyone else? very hard to see how. But what do I know, what do I know?Been praying for you and JKP for many months.
