Yippee! Oh now that does call for celebratory beverage and at least one large slice of something nice.
Baked yesterday, sultana Treacle cake and ginger cake, both still completely intact. Did think of buying wine, but resisted, and biscuits, but no, in the end bought a different type of sliced bread, 40g carbs per 100g. And a jar of peanut butter. 95.8% peanuts some oil and slightly sweetened with sugar.
So peanut butter sandwich for dinner!
The ginger cake was intended for the neighbour who helped with the gas bottle change, when there was ginger cake in the oven, I didn't like to give them one of those because with the gas going out the cake might not have turned out well.
But am feeling quite cross that they completely ignored my request for help with the mower. So cake might be going in the freezer for MrSlim, when he gets back. Sultana Treacle cake is for a
different friend who had a recent birthday.
Shame I forgot to buy an orange to make the icing, that hint of acidity contrasts so well with the extremely sweet cake. But it needs to set overnight. Used all the treacle, great! One less food item to store. Treacle is peculiar stuff, if stored for a long time always manages to eat it's way through the tin. Making black sticky rings wherever it is. Definitely not a candidate for long term storage.
Have sorted out all the bedding into sets and bundles, reassigning some of the oldest as dust sheets. Was really pleased with my organisation until I realised I am one flat sheet short. Not sure if it has been misidentified, or mIsplaced, but not undoing all that lot again. If needed I will buy another one.
Issue with bedding is we have three different sizes of double bed, as well as a single bed. Finding the correct size for the bed has frequently been frutrating,. One white, folded fitted sheet looks exactly the same as another. There have been numerous occasions when sheet is too small for the bed or quilt too large for the quilt cover. Am hoping the labelled bundle approach will prevent this in future.
We wiĺl be leaving the king size bed behind. Its a metal four poster and to get it up the curved stone staircase we had to cut it in half. Welded back together, in situ, there is no way it is coming with us.
MrSlim wants to leave one of the other
beds too. Again a metal frame, it lifts to provide storage underneath and has always been stuffed full. I think it's too useful to abandon. MrSlim says it's a pain to take apart and reassemble. The buyers didn't mention it - they asked to keep the standard size bed, but we will need that.
Kiki to the vet this morning for booster jab. That won't help reconcile her to the travel crate. Am hoping the vetinary nurse will be the same one who cared for Kiki last Christmas. Perhaps she will be willing to do so again. Was looking in supermarket local notices for petsitter and noticed one for cat looking very like Kiki needing a new home. We are already joking she will have to be rehomed if no carer is available. Its a very difficult situation because the ferry company are refusing pet travel until New year. Don't understand why? She would stay in the van, doesn't need a cabin. But with relocation imminent we will really need those few extra days to get everything packed and moved to the different storage locations. Or to a new home, which is looking less likely by the day. Am nearly resigned to staying with friends while we search.
