What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I'm currently having the opposite problem - my BG is dropping despite having various things to try to boost it. It just won't come up above 3.9. I took my normal full dose (60u) before my meal. BG was 7.9 before hand. I had pork belly and onions (fried) and a slice of wholemeal bread. BG dropped 21/2 hours later to 3.9 (Libre and finger prick) and just won't come up despite a milky coffee and 2 sweet biscuits (sore throat now because the biscuits were too sweet). If all else fails, I'd better make some meusli (oats should do it).
It kept on like that and, whatever was causing it was making me feel pretty awful as well but Neil had some bread baking so I had to stay up to get it out about 11 pm. That done, I went to bed about 11.30. BG at that point was 4.1. A few minutes later the Lantus alarm went off again because it had dropped to 3.9. I had a jelly baby and went to sleep. Woke again at 1 am with a roaring headache (sweet things do that to me) and neck and shoulders too painful to lay down and chest very tight, so here I am. BG at that point was 5.8 but I checked again at 1.15 to get it right to put in my notebook and it was 7.8 - in 15 minutes!

Just taken painkillers, because once on my feet, my legs were joining in the chorus. Now sitting with a cup of tea. It's all a puzzle and I'll have to keep checking to make sure BG stays in some sort of normal range. Once the painkillers kick in I might just doze in the chair though.

Unfortunately yesterday I ate something else that I presume had rapeseed oil in it. I had been okay eating this previously, but I knew it tasted wrong as soon as I swallowed it. Stomach pains, bad wind, heartburn etc, and then urgent bathroom visits quickly followed. So, I didn't feel well all day again. Someone told me of a facebook page on rapeseed allergy. Loads of people suffering the way I am suffering with foods and rapeseed. Rapeseed oil is in just about everything from foods, to ingredients within the food that have been prepared with rapeseed (but it is not mentioned), sweets, chocolate, baby food, toothpaste, some medicines...the list goes on. There is nothing on a lot of things to even indicate rapeseed is in the food. But you go to manufacturers sites, and there is a general notice to say rapeseed oil might be in some of their foods. Even on the supermarket doors, I have seen this on Lidl, there is a notice to say rapeseed oil may be used as a substitution, but won't be mentioned on the ingredient list, and not to worry because rapeseed oil is quite safe, and has no allergens or intolerances....

I am completely sunk here. It is not as simple as checking an ingredients list. I have no idea if rapeseed oil has been used for the manufacture of some of the ingredients or even E factors, or if a substitution has been made for a different oil.

I am hungry, I wasn't able to eat last night. I had some dry crackers in the cupboard, but on checking the ingredients in Jacob's cheese crackers, they now have rapeseed oil in them.

I will post this. And then do my creative and trail cam post separately.

Hello everyone from a currently grey and misty start to the day here in Uncle Sam's outpost within the Exotic East of England. Good news from Nevada imho. @gennepher very gentle hug for the gastric issues. I assume you have carried out a lat flow test just in case? Thank you for persisting until you could share that autumnal creative. Keep up the fluid intake today. @dunelm wonderful fbg and art. I hope the balance of your memories, thoughts and emotions this Remembrance Sunday is positive. @Krystyna23040 enjoy Sheringham Park and any Bush tucker coffee or sausage rolls you may win in your trials. As I type, I am drinking my black tea. England have taken a wicket and shortly the oven which JKP set last night will begin cooking the goose. Thanks be to God for His mercies to me. Enjoy your own unique mercies and pleasures today. Same place tomorrow everyone?
Thank you @ianpspurs

Hugs for your plight with rapeseed oil. It seems that as we get a lot of sunflower oil from the Ukraine, disruptions in supply have led manufacturers to switch but without changes to labeling. It might be worth getting in touch with these people as they seem to think that allergic reactions to rapeseed oil is both rare and mild: Allergy Alert

Oh gennepher, that's so hard for you. It must be very disheartening too. Neil doesn't have quite the same problem - most things he makes from scratch and, so far, the products he does buy have been free from rapeseed, or any of the other oils he can't take, but I will warn him to check before he buys any more. He's OK with palm oil (but not too happy about using it due to environmental issues) and with soya oil but, as far as we can tell, no other fats or oils. It would be difficult for you to have to check every product website to see if they have substituted their oil, or if rapeseed might be somewhere in the manufacturing process, but I don't know how possible that might be.

Creatives...

On the nighttime wildlife trail cam, cat, Midnight, is on the swing watching the fox.
Alternately it appears the fox is thinking 'Where's that cat?', 'Oh he's back!', 'Oh he's gone again'.

Digital autumn painting is in Procreate

Have your best day.

Ah - a temporary fight back for autumn, overcoming that winter advance.

Thank you.
This is just about an impossible situation for me @dunelm
Official information insists that allergic reactions and intolerances to rapeseed oil are rare and mild, as you say. But that is no good to me who is having more extreme reactions of diarrhoea, severe wind pains, painful heartburn etc

My first priority is coming up with food I can eat...

Thanks @Annb

That is the problem even making stuff from scratch, which I will start working on more today. I need a core of ingredients which can be verified as safe.

It is very time consuming checking every manufacturers website, and it is still no guarantee they are telling the truth. Also I have really dry eyes due to Sjögren's Syndrome, and I have to limit my time on the internet and tablets. 'They' could not get me more by the short and curlies, could 'they' ?'

Good morning everyone on what looks likely to be a nice sunny morning here in the dark and dangerous north. Mind you, it started like that yesterday but then got all foggy. Fire laying tip - always make sure that the fire has really gone out, even under the ashes before you stick a brush inside to sweep. Can brushes get away with a mullet? Is that yet another job that I have been permanently sacked from? The last one was when Mrs Miggins lodged a formal complaint about using the dish washer to clean a bike engine. Seemed to be the right tool for the job I thought. Must have been those oil drips on the kitchen floor. Sigh!
Art bit - some more detailing. Have the very best day that you can. I shall finish my koffy and take Mrs Van-Winkle a mugga tea (there used to be booker tea but they ran out of MG’s).

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and much sympathy goes out to those suffering from the cooking oil debacle it’s a problem I have been trying to negotiate for some years and have not found a satisfactory solution.

Blood sugars this morning were 6.4, no great surprise, again sayin’ nuffin’.

Trying to balance blood sugar readings against dosage is an art form in my opinion or as I have described on a few occasions trying to solve a simultaneous equation with an infinite number of unknowns.

@dunelm , top man motorcycle engine in the dishwasher 10 out of 10.
Mrs J and me, me’s and myself are meeting friends for breakfast later this morning, I don’t have to be on best behaviour, dress up smart or de louse my beard just wear my usual apparel, stockings, suspenders, nice frilly lace trousers and motorcycle crash helmet.

Stay safe all, now I am in dire need of a koffy

A successful manual on here on how to get sacked from jobs @dunelm

The art bit is like the long corridor of impending doom I am being forcibly marched along...
