What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Have just ruined MrSlims day . Went up in the loft looking for some fabric and found it to be very wet. He is not at all pleased to say the least. We paid thousands of euros last year to roofers and it's still leaking. To make matters worse there is a drip from the chimney in the salon which I found afterwards. This means water is running down the inside of the chimney as well. The thing that really annoys me though is that the leaking roof has been mentioned several times throughout spring and summer, but he has not prioritised this and now with the weather cold and wet it's likely that cement would not set. So wait until spring? Summer? Next autumn?
Meanwhile the rain is running down the wall, washing out the collumbage and threatening to get into some electric circuits. Feeling quite furious because it will be me going up there and trying to stop the water and cleaning up the mess. Just like every year we have been here. Grump Grump Grump...

As for the heating it is a sad indictment of what we have become as a set of nations, this isn't any kind of United Kingdom, that pensioners have to fret over keeping warm. There are other choices which would free up money to support people. This is not an act of God or natural disaster it is shabby political choice. There, I feel better for that.

Absolutely agree Ian (changed from friendly to agree) but I don't see it getting any better any time soon. I think people will die this winter, more even than usual. Some will be old, but some will be very young and that is criminal.
 
I'm also quite annoyed by hackers. Or pretend hackers. A bit cheesed off with receiving e-mails that tell me they have installed malware on my system and they've watched me as I visited "adult" sites. Of course, if I had wanted to, I am an adult of quite a few years' standing and would have every right; but I wouldn't even know how to go about it. These are another group of nasty people, like scammers and those unpleasant people who go round doors trying either to pressurise people into employing them, or checking their security for future reference. I wouldn't mind being able to starve them out of existence (not their families of course - and there's the rub).

I think I would be absolutely furious about it. But that doesn’t help matters.

Yes, with good reason, but I am a very mild mannered soul - often laughed at because of that. There was an occasion when at school, aged about 14, when something went wrong (can't remember what) and I grated out the worst thing I could think of: "OH........(3 second pause) .... blow!" Other girls thought it was hilarious.

I don't think so. I will admit to often giving ground, or just staying quiet to keep the peace; but there is only so far that I can be pushed. Even so, I try not to lose my temper - it's unhelpful. I try to see both sides of a quarrel and often have to be the one to bring 2 sides of an argument together. Gently.

Oh no @SlimLizzy finding the leaky roof really must have ruined your day. No wonder you feel furious.
 
Had a very late Zoom meeting (1 am) but it was short and I was in bed by 1.30 and asleep very soon after. Slept until 3.30. Too sore to stay in bed so here I am. Checked the baking from yesterday with a small piece from the corner. The bottom is soggy! Very nice though. It was a mixture of dates and apricots cooked down into a kind of porridge and spread over a pre-cooked oat base and topped with an oat and wheat crumble. Great hypo treatment - BG rose from FBG of 6.8 to 9.1 within 15 minutes. I'm hoping it will drop again in a while. I guess the porridge was too wet and it has soaked into the base. Question is, do I: 1 - try to rebake the pieces upside down to dry the bottom a bit, 2 - pretend it was meant to be that way, 3 - see if I have any rice paper to support the bottom, or 4 - give up and bake something else for my visitor? At least being up and reasonably awake, I have time to make something else.

The rest of the neighbours all around me have now got their Christmas light displays up. As I have already said, my front garden is overgrown, is a nice height and it's thick and bushy and I can sit in the front room in peace without seeing any of it...

Surely, I am not the only person in the world that gets migraine attacks from looking at these flashing, all singing all dancing Christmas lights?

I haven't chosen what I want from Amazon yet in terms of blackout stuff. I am still looking, but I found various comments that other people said they couldn't stand their neighbours Christmas lights and had bought the black out stuff for that same purpose...so I am not alone in that...

The little sparrows and other small birds are very very hungry at the moment, and are demolishing the contents of two birdfeeders in a couple of hours. Refilling goes on all day long.

Trail wildlife nighttime camera for back garden shows a lot of cats this night, one after the other...

Creative is another variation on Autumn painted in Procreate...

I am ready for a nap now, and a hot cuppa c(_)

Great light effect.

DIL has an issue with flashing lights - they can trigger an epileptic attack, but even bright lights are fine for her. But, as we know - we are all different. Hug for having thoughtless neighbours.

This stupid neighbour has flashing lights, and they trigger off a visual migraine in me, wihich is flashing zig zag lines across my whole vision and I cannot see for days. And I am totally out of action.I have several medications for this.

I have told him this and explained, and requested politely just no flashing lights in that alleyway space between me and him. I am okay with still white lights. If he can do that, It is not interfering in any way with the rest of his lights or his enjoyments of them. There is actually no need for any lights in that narrow (dead) space between and him, that no one else can see.

But his view it is his right to do what he wants on his property, when he wants, and where he wants. It is his money to spend how he wishes he yelled at me (I never mentioned money). In fact the last time I asked which was last year, he stood at his front door yelling at me when I politely requested. And hurling all kinds of abuse at me.

I do/did not have one Christian thought towards this guy.

Over the years I followed the advice to only think good thoughts towards obnoxious people. He will change if you think that all the time alternative friends said. He didn't.

I said I didn't have one Christian thought but I made one thought last year about him...you can guess what that was, or make up your own guess. And dismissed him as a person from my mind. He was not worth thinking about in any way, or occupying any space or emotion in my mind. I see him on an almost daily basis as he lives next door to me, but I don't look/notice/acknowledge him.

Unreasonable people should should never occupy any of your headspace, not even a fleeting thought.

These lights are on all day and don't go off until midnight. And on a practical level they affect the quality of my life.

Okay, I will tell you my thought/wish about him last year. I wished for him to have the life he deserves....



Is that a bad wish?

Depends what you think he deserves.

He sounds like a thoroughly unpleasant person and it isn't easy living next to someone like him, I can quite see that. Best to ignore him, if you can. It will make you feel a bit better and less stressed anyway. I don't know if you would have any redress in law, but even if you did, it would sour relationships even further if you did take legal steps. Can I tell you a story?

A friend of mine lived in Iraq under the regime of Saddam Hussein. He was half French half Iraqi. There was one person, a fairly powerful individual in the regime, who had taken a dislike to my friend's family, on religious grounds, and had made life difficult for them for years. What did they do? They prayed for him. He didn't know and he continued to put obstacles in their path, and they continued to pray for him. Any time they had dealings with him, they were unfailingly polite and friendly. Apart from anything else, it made them feel calmer and more able to cope.

The family was not allowed to leave Iraq because their father was Iraqi and the children (including my friend) were born in Iraq. Every so often they applied for a permit to leave but were always denied. One day, their "enemy" came to their house bearing their exit permits. He apologised for his previous attitude towards them and had, personally, arranged for their permits to be signed. He had come to realise that the grudge he had against them was based on a false premis and he also organised their passage out of Iraq.

Did good thoughts and prayers do the trick? Or would it have all come about anyway? Who knows, but my friend was sure that, at the very least, it helped the family to cope. Actually, he was sure, in himself, that the prayers had an effect on their "enemy".
