What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone on a splendid pre-bin day combined Ash Wednesday morning here in the dark and dangerous north. A flat out 6 this am - not so good a choice then for lunch out yesterday. While we won’t be wearing ashes this year -it’s getting out of fashion, we will be going out for dinner and using up a nice voucher, a gift to Mrs Miggins on her birthday. A Roy Orbison look alike parade yesterday at the diabetic eye screening clinic. Not that dramatic at this time of year when compared with a bright and sunny summer afternoon. How many roses do you give on Valentine’s Day? 6, 12, 24, the whole tin? Art bit, coming along despite the cut finger end deciding not to cooperate. I may threaten it with some amateur suturing. Still, it’s all gauche. Hope your day moves smoothly along and that @lindisfel et al is OK. I simply must finish this koffy.

Morning all on Ash Wednesday cum Valentines's day. I obviously have an fbg but can't report it since I'm not checking - JKP may strenuously deny I'm not testing. I don't recognise that characterisation of my policies. Have a sonnet in case your card and red roses haven't come: they won't if they were never ordered. @JohnEGreen we'll exchange songs although you may know this one. I think this fits the day and so much more - a sister song to yours yesterday in my mind. @dunelm hug for the finger but thanks for the amazing art. I found the ashing service "back home" deeply resonant but many parishes have dropped them. Y'all have whatever kind of day you feel appropriate

I had to go to Kingsmill hospital for monthly blood test got there at 9 AM and the blood clinic was packed out were about 20 people ahead of me then a lady gave me her number ticket which was the next number to be called what a generous thing to do.

Glad you found the song helpful. What a kind lady. Hospital never received my bloods from last Wednesday so I had to go into Cambridge this morning or no drip trip tomorrow. There is a drive through service at one of the Park and Ride areas. Very quick and efficient - do other areas still have these?
 
Just had an incoming call on my mobile purported to originate in Castle Douglas in Scotland I have been getting these calls from all over the place even one from New York I think they are some sort of scam and I don’t answer them just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this I keep blocking them but then another one pops up.

Love that ballad, Ian and really enjoyed the song as well - never heard of it or the singer but she's well worth listening to. That song spoke to me.

That's what happens with these scams - I get loads of them - always from a different source, but it's the same or similar scam each time. Bit of a pain but it's easy enough to put the phone down. They are all scams - no proper organisation would cold call like that.

Glad you found them both useful. Lent is sometimes a time people give something up and make a song and dance about it. I like this (taken from this homily for anyone interested but I can understand people saying give it a rest squire)

The barbed wire is relevant to what I found down the rabbit hole of Ancestry.
To do with secrets and the long term effect of those secrets...on people and families, and ultimately my children...
Strangely I had part of the answer these last 50 years. I was told the secret 50 years ago, or rather only part of it, and I thought it was the whole secret. The person it was going to affect the most, died 40 years ago.
I didn't connect the dots until I did research on Ancestry on a particular thing these last few days....I was being asked questions...and asked to do research.
I am still trying to unravel an event about 85 years ago. It is about not me personally....but does affect my family...and does affect me because I was entrusted with part of the secret, which I kept...keeping that secret affected me, it was a hell of a burden to put on me... I can still keep this secret. But I am now thinking it might be time to let others know....I am thinking carefully about this...
And I am surprised I am still able to find official documentation...

Sorry I keep adding bits to this...

Blood sugars this morning were 5.6

Yesterday’s shed component was made and given its first coat of preservative, but will not be fitted until the weekend at the earliest. Thanks for asking @ianpspurs.

Ah the joys of youth, today I am worn out. Me me’s and myself are finding out that if I have a busy strenuous day the next day is a right off. I must remember that I am not a 35 year old anymore.

The word right reminds me of the radio presenter Steve Wright a man who brought pleasure of many may he rest in peace and condolences to his family.

A positive note the religious zealots that inhabit the centre of Reading officiously handing out leaflets saw me walking towards my pick up point straight past them and they blatantly ignored me. A good result for me.

Now tomorrow is national bin day and I must go and prepare the bins ready for inspection and collection tomorrow.
Question which bin do you put political canvassers in? A general waste or B garden waste ie compost as they are full of fertiliser?

On the way back from town I asked Mrs J to stop the car outside of the florist’s so Mrs J could have a look at the valentine flowers, yep I’m an old romantic at heart.

Precisely! Very aware of my faults but trying to hope I do well enough - given my fallibility.

Yes, I did eat. First 3 fruit pastilles to get BG back towards the right range (for me) then the tagine that I had forgotten about. A short time ago Libre warned me that my BG was nearly 11 and was too high so I should do something about it. I've ignored it so far - too busy to bother with it.

Many have particular reasons for wanting to research ancestry mine was I hoped to resolve the mystery of who my fathers father was this being a complete unknown to me my father would never speak of it his mother was unmarried when he was born and 1916 that was frowned on also there is no one left to ask so I had hoped to find the answer by researching ancestry and through DNA matches of which I got over 15000 matches but not really any closer to solving the mystery but I still shall persist as long as I can.

We have one ancestor who bore a son with no father, back in 1787. No indication now of who the man was - too long ago now but interesting that it was acknowledged that far back. Tom's father's father was also unknown - she was a maid at the "Big House" and the father was one of the guests (taking advantage of a young, naive girl who didn't know how to say no in that situation). He was raised as the son of his grandparents (too shameful to admit to his illegitimacy). He was devastated when he was about 12 and somebody at school told him - so not so much of a secret after all. It was 1922 when he was told. Different attitudes, different times.

If your ancestry goes back via the Sly line in 1787- she may be one of your ancestors too.

I did the DNA as well because on a completely different secret, I am my family's secret. And my (evil) stepmother had kept being nasty to me over the years asking me over and over "What's the family secret? You must know."
I didn't.
But when my Aunt died some years back, my cousin, at her funeral grabbed my hand, and said, "This is your place to follow her coffin. She's your mother too."
I didn't know. And he told me he was my brother and he had dressed her in a jumper I had knitted for her, and placed my cat paintings (which she loved) in her coffin...
The DNA showed her husband, my uncle, was in all probability my father. He was Scottish, and I have a lot of Scots (is that how to say it?) in my DNA

And the evil stepmother is dead now...

I have belonged to several ancestry sites in the past, to find answers for my things. And belonging to several sites, has helped me. Horrendously expensive but I wanted answers. I only belong to Ancestry now.

I really hope you can still find who your father's father was @JohnEGreen
