if anything, my problem might be closer to the opposite end of the continuum -- at least in the past my haemotocrit count seems at the upper limit of normal. Not sure, though, if and how this would impact HbA1c.

High haemotocrit levels do apparently affect the HbA1c. According to Dr. Bernstein these factors can cause elevated HbA1c levels:
Hypothyroidism
Hemolitic anaemia (B12 or iron deficiency)
Elevated haemotocrit
Longer than usual red blood cell life.

My HbA1c can be as much as 10mmol/mol higher than my other data, and that is one heck of a lot higher. My Haemotocrit level is always borderline high, and my last one was actually over the borderline. I doubt the Fructosamine test would help, having read up about it. My GP agrees with me that there are anomalies in my case, but the HbA1c is what they have to go off and at present is all they have. She does know how inaccurate it can be for many people. I have dozens of research links about it.
As @Goonergal mentioned above, my GP arranged with the Biochemist Consultant at the lab for my blood to be tested at 2 different labs, exactly the same sample. There was a 4mmol/mol difference between the 2 labs. Not enough to satisfy me, but nonetheless, interesting.
Hope you feel better soon5.2 this morning - and a monster headache to go with it
Take careMorning everyone hope you are all well my FBG is 13.8 and I am coming down with a cold
