Thanks for that @DJC3 very kind of you to take so much trouble. I use/d a tool @ziggy_w pointed me too to work out https://burnfatnotsugar.com/TyGIndexCalculator.html. Mine came out as normal (4.4) based on December HbA1c which was higher than many of my daily readings - my trigs were ok (.76.) I am not keen on paying for other tests and highly sceptical about much of the science quoted by many other posters - loads of confirmation bias going on methinks. Basically, I want to "flourish" not bounce along the bottom eating things of dubious nutritional value just to squash a few finger prick readings. BTW I am currently drinking a huge mug of tea from a Mr Grumpy mugHaha I noticed that little typo after I’d posted but thought ‘noone will notice’ Should have guessed Eagle Eyes would pick it up!
Not going to offer a hug for fbg, know you don’t want that, but great news on your other parameters.
Have you ever had a fasting insulin test? I’ve been reading Ivor Cummins recently and he reckons fbg on its own is a v poor marker of control unless taken with fasting insulin. And that after following a lc woe for some time, one’s insulin level comes down to healthy levels, but then the yin yang interplay of insulin and glucagon may give rise to slughtly higher fbg. This is not the same as high bg with high insulin - that’s a totally different scenario. Its the product of the two measurements which gives a far more important indicator of insulin sensitivity. The equation gives the HOMA and is a good indiator of the health of your glucose insulin system.
I paid to have fasting insulin done privately recently and was happy to see A low level, so when I finally figured out how to work out the HOMA it was in the ideal zone. This means a higher fbg if offset by low fasting insulin is ok and quite normal. It’s made me feel a lot more relaxed about the fbg ( and interestingly readings have come down a bit since then too, maybe cos I’m more chilled)
Anyway, it was just a thought. You’ve probably looked into it yourself knowing you.
Thank you - have been thinking about doing this because I have been on keto for absolutely ages now and I would like to know if my fasting insulin was normal. Have just looked at the Thriva site. A really good price so will go ahead with the test. Great that you can do it at home, but also that they give you some help if you cant.I got it from Thriva - they send you a kit to take it yourself by stabbing a finger. It doesn’t hurt, but I couldn’t get enough blood so had to pay for one of their nurses to visit and take a venous sample. Cost more but I still figure it was worth it. I’m fairly sure you can get it done at Medicheck too though.
My figures are the same - much lower before lunch and dinner than fbg.
Thanks very helpful. I would love to know my levels but I am a bit afraid also since my Endo is convinced my insulin will inevitibly “dry up” only a matter of when not if. He said if I get back to HBA1c 48 which he maintains will happen in the next decade even with a perfect diet I will be put on insulin regime. Probs best I stay “in the dark”!Homeostatic Model Assessment (of insulin resistance)
Its calculated by (fasting insulin) x ( fasting glucose) divided by 405
Insulin measured in uIU/ml and fbg in mg/dl so both measurements are in American units.
A quick Google search will give you conversions though and this is the online calculator that does the equation

Must be very satisfying to have beaten sepsis, be home and have such good fb. Top bouncebackability. @PenguinMum the Endo's view sadly mirrors my darker view of how this movie ends but as many here point out there just aren't the long term studies of people following LC diets to counteract that view. Also, there are too many T2s who behave like the sad tale of the lorry driver @Chook told yesterday in the what have you eaten thread.5.9 this morning

1.5 pints - currently on 4th - yes it is chipped but I have others the same size and can't bear to throw this away.

All my friends and releatives respect my food choices , in the main. If I do get anything nasty like a chocolate egg, or worse, a chocolate rabbit, I just say thank you and then re-gift (usually in the direction of grandchildren).@trick60 I’m keeping my diagnosis a secret for now as I don’t want to deal with the shaming and stigma and questions, food policing, etc. I’m a bit worried how I’ll get through Easter without people asking why when I refuse chocolate but I think I’ll just take it but re-gift, or tell people I’ve decided to go keto or something.
@DJC3 and @ianpspurs I am going to proceed in an illuminated way whilst remaining in the dark. God I sound like Parliament! Also I love a challenge and told that Endo that lovely as he was he wouldnt be seeing me anytime soon. Hey ho!
Good to see @alf_Josiah back on form.
Er...no thanks!!Haha I love that phrase - you certainly should be in parliament!
Thanks again. You and I are probably at either end of the spectrum on trust in LC eating and benefits of these tests for ourselves. AFAIC the tests won't reveal anything useful as I am convinced this WOE is not exactly fit for purpose for me but I don't know anything better just now. I will just carry on despite but remain highly sceptical. I respect all those who both enjoy this woe and see the benefits.Love the mug! SIL has exactly the same one.
I used Ziggy’s tool too and agree it’s useful. Personally I think insulin levels have to be important in the great scheme of things but we all have to reach our own conclusions based on our own research.
I’m not sure you need to eat things of dubious nutritional value just to bounce along the bottom, but certainly you need to feel happy and comfortable with whichever woe you choose.
There were 3 things at the beginning of your post I couldn’t see. ?pictures? Gif? Don’t know but I saw the mug so all good!
Good news Tracy you've escaped & you're home...it must be a relief ...I am so pleased for you5.9 this morning
