5.0 this morning which is great since I was 11.5 last night. My levels have not been over 8.0 at all for the last 6 weeks apart from last night but I've just started steroids (asthma) so could that effect my blood sugar levels?

Yes, I believe that steroids can increase your BG levels but well done on your readings up to now!

Mine was 6.2 @ 07.30 I did however have a late night snack of some dried fruit and mixed nuts!
