What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

An academic 5.3 this morning- this after much food and whisky with friends last night.

Interesting article in the guardian this morning about an early warning system for type 2
However I wonder if they will just recommend more medical intervention adding more pressure on nhs funding .
Had a read... Fascinating that they're looking at heart ECG's, rather than more elaborate and expensive bloodwork. That would not have been my guess, but very interesting indeed. Too bad it's with AI, which as a creative I'm rather allergic to, but for this sort of thing... Yeah, alright. I'll allow it. ;)

But yes, i agree... How they're going to use the information to help the patient will be about as interesting. Dietary advice, medication, or is it something people'll shrug off because it's 13 years in the future?

Morning All so another 7.7 today. At my son’s tomo so first time in 41 years I’m not chief cook and bottle washer!
If I had the ear of the Health Secretary I would recommend everytime someone is diagnosed give them a meter and strips and make them responsible for not letting this thing run away or it can causes serious problems to your organs. Give a simple leaflet about carbs and carb swaps encouraging the build up of a safe bank of meals. The NHS with their buying power could negotiate the meters for free and taper the number of testing strips over a 3 month period. I really believe it would be cost effective for the health budget and encourage a partnership of taking responsibility for individual health.
Merry Christmas everyone. Stay safe, stay well.

Good morning everyone 5.27 this morning.
Part of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf collapsed into the ocean on Monday as powerful winter storms pummeled the California coast — Last week big tornadoes hit Scout Valley, a small town where I live, about 3-4 miles from Santa Cruz beach. This was probably the first Tornado in California, (not sure). Merry Christmas everyone.

6.2
heavy rain this morning in the D R. So much beach walking in bare feet has resulted in a sore foot. I’m ignoring it as it’s the only exercise I get here. Did 13 km yesterday even though it was ****** weather. The destruction on the beach was incredible…
need to get a couple of things from the grocery store today, it’ll be a zoo! A fun zoo..

7,2 this morning. Meeting up with the inlaws this afternoon, unwrapping gifts together. Mainly for the kids of course, but the adults get something too. I'll probably come home with something cat-themed again, which is always good. And quirky socks or similar. :)

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, whatever fasting bg's you woke up to today! <3

I was a bit alarmed to read the "low" readings of a lot of ppl's bg
I m T2 and on Ozempic for past 18 months.
My morning/fasting bg is always above 8mmol and I have been viewing it as "ok" (wrongly?)
Anything above 7.0 would be a diabetic number. (5,5 to 4,9 prediabetic, and under that, non-diabetic). The fasting numbers are the last to come down though, as it's more about what your liver is injecting into your system from what is stored there, to help you start the day, than what you've eaten. If you're on Ozempic I'll hazard a quess and say you've likely got a non-alcoholic fatty liver to deal with as well then? (Kind of comes with diabetes and being overweight, might not bother you at all though), so.... If it's coming out of the liver in the morning, and into your bloodsteam, that's not bad per se, as it is likely to be on the way out of your system, rather than the blood sugars being high due to something you've eaten and is on its way to being stored in the liver. Best to look at what your blood sugars look like the rest of the day. Do you test before a meal, and two hours after the first bite? If those numbers are high too, you might want to adjust your carbohydrate-intake. Then eventually your fasting blood sugars would come down too.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas!
Jo
