6.4 today, still trying hard to keep carb numbers down and treats at bay. @Phil T57 my hospital measures the HbA1c blood rest in mmol/mol and gives a number of 30 to 100 or more. A number of of 48mmol/mol puts a person in the diabetic region so the aim is to keep it as low as possible by whatever methods we have at our disposal such as diet, exercise and medication. The hospital blood test is also mean't to be an indication of the levels over the last 3 months.

Finger pricks or CGM measurements that most of us quote here are measured mmol/L which vary anywhere from 3 to 20 or more and we all have our own targets we wish to aim for but in general low is good, high is bad and we all struggle to maintain our ideal numbers and targets. The finger stab and dip is a measurement at that particular moment in time and is a snapshot rather than an average. Glucose meters are a similar measurement but constantly monitor your levels and show trends as opossed to single snapshots and are very useful for showing what foods or actions affect your blood sugar and by how much.

The rules here (advice really) are to test the moment you wake whether you are still in bed or just having risen as for most of us the numbers just keep going up after waking and are in general lowest on waking. The internet is your best friend for information, conversions etc and support on here is really useful and supportive.

The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!
6.9 this morning have been off this last few weeks. Problems with my elbow definitely, I dont play tennis but have been in pain with it after an old injury so its strapped up. I also managed to pull my knee last week so have been hobbling around and crawling up and down stairs. All of this is not ideal when you have to cut hair lol

3.7 according to libre which the current sensor seems to be out by 2-3 mmol's vs finger pricks. fingers getting a little sore so didn't bother to check, i'll wait til either 1) 3.2 or lower or 2) feel weird. I should try get hang of pricking my right fingers too rather than just left hand which should help alongside both sides of each finger. still too nervous using the pen lancet :/ that could help too with hugely adjustable depths

over selling.... oh so many things are enthusiastically oversold
Morning all. More blue sky

- I’m adapting to the time zone here . Mind you I went to bed at ten, woke up at one and had to read the whole of the internet. Got to sleep at four

I’ve just had to use the loo at just gone eight , with blood glucose at six point five, got back into bed and currently glucose levels are five point nine. I figure I’m on holiday a lay in is ok

6.0 this morning.

We have family visiting so for a treat we went up to the Northumberland Coast yesterday and took a boat trip to the Farne Islands. I was hoping to take some puffins pics I could post for @mojo37 and @PenguinMum as I know they liks Puffins, but I only saw them flying in the sky and couldn't get a good pic. Too many people trying to do the same thing. I saw plenty of Kittiwakes, guillemots and cormorants along with other seabirds on the islands though. Also saw some seals basking on one of the outer islands they looked like they didn't have a care in the world. :)
I went to the Farne Islands last in 2018. I was pleased to be able to get this on an ordinary camera:

7.2 on finger prick as CGM now expired. I am on holiday abroad next week so not fitting a CGM until I get back as a result will be relying on intermittent finger stabbing and not so strict diet regime. Thankfully this will be after my diabetic MOT so will have almost a year to recover. :D Not quite the responsible attitude I know but have to let our hair down , while we still can.

What ae the rules for this fasting blood glucose test please?
I'm glad to see the numbers people are quoting look like numbers of a stab & dip meter
not those ridiculous numbers the hospital type bllod tests give you that actually mean nothing without some kind of conversion chart.. I assume there is one somewhere.
Hi and welcome to the thread. No particular rules, we just test each morning when we get up and record the results. So its the case of stab your finger and check the results with a glucose meter or if you are wearing a CGM record the results from those.. The thread helps us stay on track we try to encourage (or commiserate) each another. Not sure what you mean by hospital blood tests unless you mean an HbA1c test

8.4 this morning. I'm having to wear my 'Arthritis' glove. My hand is so painful, I can't pick anything up. Have a nice day all. :)
About the same. I've pinched a nerve in my left elbow and now I have to make a compress of painkillers and warm-ups. I also caught a cold and the temperature doesn't drop from 38C. Bg is even better than usual in case of illness, it stays at 8-9, but I've been without food all day because I'm vomiting.

Yes, I want to whine a little :hilarious:

Some people will say test as soon as you get up others keep their testers by their bedside and check before they get up. Its pretty much up to you. I like to get up and wash my hands first - we are all different. :)
