Hi. am currently just on victoza 1.8 n still with hugh blood sugar levels, test regularly, n am finding myself with muggy foggy head, drowsy n unable to concentrate clearly for long n decent periods of time feel thick headed n have to push myself to make effort to think n speak clearly as some words get jumbled up! then I am more baffled as to whats going on?? thankfully its not every day I am like this, though today I am ... Have thought n have put it down to tiredness n fatigue with the constant high blood sugars. Am due to see the endocrinologist on 1st june to discuss going onto levemir insulin as victoza has only made a dip in my high blood sugars. [ the diabetic team have been after me for some time now to agree to give in n accept insulin] . Am wondering if its normal to feel as I do like today? mant thanks.Anna. x

Hello all. Had no replies to post yet? Am still baffled as to why I do n can feel rough some days as I did yesterday. No advice or help either...? Anna.

Hi Anna,

Sorry to sound thick, but is Victoza a tablet or injection? I'm taking Sitagliptin at the moment, and that isn't working so well. I'm feeling really depressed with it and want to quit. I told the nurse and she went mad at me for saying it.

Hi joey, you're not thick at all, victoza is an injection a glp1 peptide [an enzyme to mimic bodys own] that tells pancreas to produce more insulin when you have eaten. Why did you want to give up on januvia sitaglyptin? I tried that too prior to going into victoza, sadly it didnt even touch or reduce my high blood sugar levels at all ! whats your difficulty with continueing with sitaglyptin? Anna.

Hi Anna,

I'm just feeling really depressed when I'm on it. Also, I'm getting really constipated! I just hate how I'm feeling on it. My blood sugars are high in the morning, around the 13 mmol mark, and go down during the day between 7 and 9 mmol. I follow a low GI diet, I'm slowly losing weight, but I'm feeling really low. They want me to go on to insulin too, but I'm just not convinced!

Hi joey, interesting! How n why are you not convinced? they've been after me for last 6 months to give up n in to them n their preaching n bull dozing ways to go onto insulin. Have held them off as am so intolerant to meds with the only ones agreeing with me are the glp4 and glp1 peptides - everything else made me so ill and far worse with sense of well being : [emotionally, mentally, physically] personally am "terrified" even insulin WONT agree with me either. As in rare cases it can poison the body n system. and knowing my body n system plus luck? its still a possibilty? Even my own gp and the consultant have concerns with me. [ the diabetic team n nurses are to eager and pushy to get me onto insulin ASAP ] The only thing I can now start to agree with them is nothing including the peptides can get my stubborn high blood sugars down! Anna.

Hi Anna,

I'm with you on the reasoning about insulin, also, I read a blog on this site that GP's are trying to push people onto insulin because it's cheaper than the other stuff!! Anyway, I really don't want to take it, and when I said this to my Diabetic nurse, she got really angry with me, really defensive! If there wasn't any truth in it, she could have shirked it off and not got upset!

Deep down, I still want to try and solve the problem on my own, without the need of medication. I hate the fact that it's controlling me. Do you feel that way?

Hi. joey. Am completely in full agreement with you, both with the defensive attitude of the nurse[mine exactly same] and it IS far cheaper for them to stick us on cheap insulin and yes I so DO hate the fact the diabetes controls us n not us in control of IT!!! despite super efforts to try n get the high blood glucose levels down with low carb n healthy diet n testing often to eat n portion size correctly... plus keep active to fat burn fat storage even though I am tiny. Plus I do have genuine meds intolerances that affect both my body n system, plus low immune system had 4 infections recently one after the other. My nurse suggested I go around wearing a mask!!!! n wouldnt I just look both bizarre n stupid? I just had n have to stay indoors to prevent catching any bugs viruses infections etc... so yes I truly do hate the lack of control it all gives me. It gets me down n last 2 times I went to my diabetic clinic they ended up bullying me going on n on n on n on at me I ended up in tears each time. So much so I really do not want to go back n avoid it if I could. Anna.x

If you have exhausted all other meds and already low carb and are still unable to reduce your bg levels then insulin is probably the answer, it will bring down your bg but has to be balanced to your lifestyle, diet and exercise. Having been on it for a year after diagnosis I would not hesitate to go back on it if I had to as it worked for me extremely quickly and all my tiredness left me and once my bg levels were brought under control I had more energy than I had had for ages.

Insulin isnt a sign of failure if you have tried everything else, it will work, you just have to get used to a new routine. :D

Hi. Yes I do feel like all efforts to help myself ARE a failure and am well aware will have to be really on the ball with my eating times portions n habits to new regime with insulin etc... [it scares me to be honest] If you can understand this angle too I also feel with all meds n drugs intolerances plus the preaching n bulldozing ways of the diabetic specialist nurse I also feel so let down plus distrustful of the medics drugs n approach with me, as had so many reoccurrent illnesses and horrendous side effects leaving me worn out. Only my own GP and chief consultant are as guarded as I am with what to do with me.Am unusual and do come with "risk" [their own words!] Sids angle is refreshing n encouraging to hear , how long did it take you and 'others' to feel the benefits as new insulin users? Does it also improve low, weak immune system? Am trying to force myself to think n be more positive with idea of 'trying insulin' ? gut instinct up till now has screamed NO DONT TRY IT at me so have held them at bay.... especially with ending up in tears n backed into a wall so to speak! What are the 'human insulins?' is levemir one of them? please advise n steer me in right track of thoughts... thanks. Anna.

From what I have learnt, there is no one answer. Different people react to meds differently, so you really have to try it for yourself and see if they work. I know some people who had major illness while on Metformin, now they are on insulin, they are fine, so it obviously suited them. Going on to insulin is not defeat, your body organ has stopped working and holding back on insulin is not going to bring it back from the brink of failure, so i suggest, try everything and see how YOUR body reacts to it.
Good Luck !!
