If you are craving pancakes, have you tried this recipe from dietdoctor.com? It's not a keto low carb recipe, though at 10g carb/serving!

Serves 4
4 eggs
1/2 lb (250g) cottage cheese
2 tbsp ground psyllium husk
2 tbsp butter or coconut oil
Blend all ingredients for the batter and let it swell for 5 mins or more.
Heat the butter/coconut oil in a frying pan and spoon 1/4 of mixture into pan. Cook until browned on bottom then flip and cook on the other side. Repeat with the rest of the mixture. These pancakes really stick as the cheese melts but a ceramic pan is great or a really good teflon pan.
Serve with a dollop of heavy whipping cream and a few berries or nuts.
Really delicious.

Alternative: 4g carbs/serving
Serves 4
Ingredients
6 eggs
1/2 cup (120g) coconut flour
3/4 cup (180 ml) coconut milk
2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
butter or coconut oil for frying
Instructions
1.Separate the yolk from the egg whites and whisk the egg whites vigorously with salt, preferably use a hand mixer. Continue whisking until stiff peaks form and then set aside.
2.Whisk together yolks, oil and coconut milk in a different bowl.
3.Add coconut flour and baking powder and mix into a smooth batter.
4.Carefully fold the egg whites into the batter. Let sit for 5 minutes.
5.Fry in butter or coconut oil for a couple of minutes or so on each side on low to medium heat.
6.Serve with melted butter or fresh berries.
Haven't tried this one but it looks good.

It sounds like you are dropping the replacement shake but in case you did want to try a Newcastle style diet again I found the PHD Diet Whey powder was the "best" commonly available alternative (Amazon, Tesco, H&B).
Full details here: https://www.phd-supplements.com/diet-whey-powder.html
The important number is the carb value - 2.75g per serving - which is a lot better than most replacement powders.

I fully agree with everyone saying that real food is best but also understand that a short term intensive "attack" does have good results for a lot of people. Shortly after I was first diagnosed I did 8 weeks of on a max 800 calorie a day diet and saw amazing results in peak BG levels and stability. This was only possible by drinking two shakes (breakfast and lunch) then a vegetable stew or stir fry in the evening. It was not the most enjoyable 8 weeks but the results were worth it. After that I dropped the shakes, relaxed the calorie limit but stuck to Low Carb and have continued to see improvements.

I will look into this thanks for suggesting it. I really thought Almased was OK as it's quite well advertised as being diabetic friendly. I have taken on board the suggestions here to just eat real food and I seem to be finding it OK and seem to be losing weight too so will carry on and see.

My readings have been excellent since going low card (properly, not what was my idea of low carb!) :)

I think I will experiment with my meals as to how many grams of carbs I can tolerate when I eat a meal, for example I had mussels today for lunch and 175g were about 8g of carbs (so it stated on the packaging) and I couldn't believe my reading - it was 5.8 ! probably the best reading I've ever had after a meal :)

Beware.. re-introducing carbs too early can have negative effects... why not carry on as you have been and get your sugars stabilised before re-introducing things that you know aren't good for you.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. Low carb is so effective at reducing BG. Here's to more great readings :)

Being overweight is closely connected with type 2 diabetes as excess blood sugars get stored as fat in the liver and eventually around the pancreas too which then starts to mess up the body's ability to produce insulin. A LCHF low carb high fat diet seems to be very good for type 2 diabetes producing lower blood sugars and also losing weight.

If the goal is to remove all that excess fat in the liver and pancreas then consider a bit of fasting. I have started to skip breakfasts at weekends and now I am going to try skipping breakfast and lunch at weekends and just having one meal a day. There is a lot of advice on this over at www.dietdoctor.com.
