What's the best low carb breakfast

Hi viviennem,

Thanks for all you advice, you've really helped me understand everything a bit more. Inspirational! A quick question see what people think: Do you find your bg's are better if you:
1) eat first and then excercise?
2) excercise first and then eat?

I'm thinking about breakfast or evening meals etc.... I would imagine I just have to try the different methods and test test test.

Not sure that there is an easy to answer to that. It depends how much and what sort of exercise you do...

I usually exercise before I eat, and if it's aerobic exercise (relatively low intensity, like jogging or walking) then it helps my BG all day.

However if it's high intensity "anaerobic" exercise (like fast running) then there is the danger of a liver dump that can spike your blood. Mine went from 5mmol/l to 9mmol/l after running a 5k yesterday.

Generally I try to exercise 2-3 a week usually 2 of those sessions is a Spin class either 45 mins or an hour, and the other is general gym work (cardiovascular no weights at the moment). I would say they're pretty intense classes so anaerobic. Today I started at 9mmol/l for my fasting and had a porridge went spin they dropped to 7 and been coming down all day last check was 5.9mmol/l just before I had my dinner. I suppose it's just a case of testing, testing, and some more testing to see what works best for me. On a separate note the porridge hasn't been giving my any sort of a spike since I've been eating it which has surprised me.

It took me over 2 weeks of testing and I don't know how many strips to try and work out what is best for me for breakfast. My fasting levels are usually about 7-7.5, I go to the gym 5 days a weeks, and what I thought would be good for me for breakfast eg bacon , eggs etc, was actually putting my Bg levels way up after a gym session, obviously a lliver dump.So as I say, after weeks of testing I think I have cracked it. The days I go to the gym I take porridge, and my readings after my gym sessions, which is usually 2 hours after my breakfast are about the same as my fasting. The days I don't go to the gym I have natural Greek yoguart, strawberrys, and almonds, and this seems to work fine. Weekends is frys, with no bread.
just a wee footnote Myagi007, I was like yourself, I never really lifted any weights, but I have found and read that building up muscle is very good at burning of sugar, especially your big muscles. Your spin class will also help you in this.

The East Man,

Thanks for the advice, I'm finding my fasting levels are all over the place and at the moment Greek Yoghurt and blueberries is increasing it slightly but then they steadily come down so tomorrow I'm trying a different breakfast, as well as a spin class.

I plan to build muscle once I get closer to my target weight, as I don't really want to turn my fat to muscle I could start on my arms as they seem to have got skinny (dweeby some would say :lol whilst i've been losing weight.

Thanks, any advice always appreciated.

Regards
