When to take Metformin SR

I have been prescribed 500mg SR Metformin once a day. But i dont know what point in the day to take it.

Is it during my main meal (evening) or when I wake up, or when i go to be or what is the most effective time? Nurse didnt tell me and I dont see her again until December.

And should I take it at the same time every day? I mean, does the SR bit mean it lasts 24 hours? I know I should have asked, but I was a bit blown away with all the info and sad that i now need to take this as my fasting levels are now 7.5+ every day

I'm newly diagnosed and on Metformin SR and my GP stressed that it's best to take them once a day with my evening meal.

As far as I can tell, SR means slow release. I'm Danish, so our products are differently named.

It should slowly release the med over 24 hours.

I am quite sure the reason for taking metformin with a meal is it will be less likely to give you stomach upset if it is taken with food.

Hi Lucy,
Not all SR medications last 24 hours, some only 8-10 hours. Try asking the chemist where you obtained them.

Hi Lucy, I was told to take mine with my evening meal. Hope you have now sorted it all .
