Where is the glucose coming from?

Hi, I always thought that metformin stopped my liver producing glucose?

I am currently trying very hard to get numbers down, I started with my first test at 8.5, I ate Fage yogurt with berries, 2 hours later 6.8, so all good, 3 hours later I was hungry but happy to be enjoying low numbers, when I tested I was 8.7, why would this be if the metformin is working on my liver? Where else is it coming from?

I am also taking Jardiance and Humalin I

Ive been at this a long time but just dont understand this

Just a guess... But the fat of the yoghurt may have slowed down a little sugar peak, so you got it later? If your yoghurt is the same Fage as the one sold in Dutch supermarkets, there's 3 grams of carbs per 100ml, plus the berries. It's not 0% carbs, so that would be my guess... No idea about the humalin & jardiance though, don't use those.But if you started at 8.5, had a little dip to 6.8, going back up to 8.7 isn't all that bad.... Still under 2 mmol/l. Can still call it a win...

Thankyou but it sure does not feel like a win, I dont understand, the jardiance stops my kidneys extracting glucose, my met should stop the liver? I would accept 8.7 level if glucose was slowed by the fat but the dip makes no sense to me :(

I just read Met halts the liver from dumping glusoce up to about 75%... That's not entirely shutting it down. That's all I've got, sorry...

I am trying to gain understanding of all the phrases going in here not really had much help from my doctor apart from tests but not much information coming my way. Feel abandoned slightly and the only thing I’ve changed is cutting out white bread
 
I might be wrong, but I thought Metformin increased insulin sensitivity by increasing the number of insulin receptors on a cell’s surface. Therefore not having any affect on the liver’s glucose release function.

Metformin is supposed to do several useful things - block uptake or carbs, alter the liver's ability to release glucose and allow cells to take up glucose - but it just made me feel really ill.

Considering the fact ive been taking metformin for years, you would have thought I would have known what it did :banghead:

I believed it only blocked the glucose from the liver
 
According to Diabetes Care Mar 2012 (35(3) Miralles-Linnares et al, "Metformin-Induced Hepatotoxicity" - metformin is only withheld if the person has severe liver disease already and there are rare cases of metformin enflaming the liver as is the case with many medications. Many sources talk about Metformin's ability to make peripheral tissues (body cells in general apart from central organs) more sensitive to insulin and that metformin also works in the gut (Diabetes Care Metformin's effect: A Tale of Two Sites? Song et al, Feb 2016).
Metformin can also compromise kidney function and is often ceased before having scans involving contrast agents (provided kidney function is not already too compromised.) (Effect of Metformin on Chronic Kidney Failure: Time for a Rethink nbci.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4079480.
