Some examples of Carb Content in Alcoholic Drinks
Alcohol Item (serving size) Carbs (g)
Beer, regular (12 fl oz) 13g
Beer, light (12 fl oz) 4.5g
Wine, red (3.5 fl oz) 1.75g
Wine, rose (3.5 fl oz) 1.5g
Wine, white (3.5 fl oz) 1g
Cider, dry (1 pint) 15g
Gin, Rum, Vodka, Whisky (1 fl oz) 0g
Sherry (2 fl oz) 3g
Port (2 fl oz) 6g
Guinness (1/2 pint) 4g
My favourite tipple (was) Guinness has 8g carbs per pint, however I find that it has a negligible effect on my Bg levels. That I found by testing. So if you are going to drink anything alcoholic in more than a glass or so, test to make sure you know exactly what it does to you. Red wine is good though because of it's other benefits. Everybody I know who has tried it states that it helps the Bg levels drop. Must be something in it.
So, test before and after drinking, you may just get a surprise. Back to my diet Coke.....
