Some examples of Carb Content in Alcoholic Drinks

Alcohol Item (serving size) Carbs (g)
Beer, regular (12 fl oz) 13g
Beer, light (12 fl oz) 4.5g
Wine, red (3.5 fl oz) 1.75g
Wine, rose (3.5 fl oz) 1.5g
Wine, white (3.5 fl oz) 1g
Cider, dry (1 pint) 15g
Gin, Rum, Vodka, Whisky (1 fl oz) 0g
Sherry (2 fl oz) 3g
Port (2 fl oz) 6g
Guinness (1/2 pint) 4g

My favourite tipple (was) Guinness has 8g carbs per pint, however I find that it has a negligible effect on my Bg levels. That I found by testing. So if you are going to drink anything alcoholic in more than a glass or so, test to make sure you know exactly what it does to you. Red wine is good though because of it's other benefits. Everybody I know who has tried it states that it helps the Bg levels drop. Must be something in it.
So, test before and after drinking, you may just get a surprise. Back to my diet Coke..... :(

When I was first diagnosed I continued eating carbs but for some reason my blood sugars were still higher than they should be. One evening I had a meal with out potatoes and low and behold my sugars were fine and in the morning lower than they'd ever been so now I cut out the spuds, if I'm still hungry I'll have a slice of rye bread (lovely with the gravy in a stew). Also found that rice and pasta were making my sugars high so I've cut back on these but still enjoy either one once a week ( a little bit of what you fancy!). Since adopting this my sugars have been in the required area so give low carbing a try you've nothing to loose. I'll just add that since cutting out spud if I try it I wonder what all the fuss was about their rather bland really!
I also used to have bran flakes and fruit for breakfast but changed that to reddy brek (prefer this to porridge).

Interesting. Your guide differs from mine in the wine department (but broadly matches elsewhere).

Wine, red (100 ml) 0g
Wine, rose (100 ml) 2.5g
Wine, white (100 ml) 2.0g

(100 ml is close to 3.5 fl oz)
