Who's going to have a pancake tomorrow...?

Not me :(

But I probably wouldn't have anyway being that it is "band night" and I rehearse with a local community concert band. Hard to play clarinet on an overstuffed, pancake filled tummy :D

But for those who do indulge - enjoy but don't overdo it!

Too lazy to make them, I'm afraid! and anyway, there's no flour in the house.

Enjoy just one, Malc, but don't forget to use powdered Splenda (or similar) instead of sugar! and Golden Syrup is a complete no-no

Viv :)

Even with golden syrup I'd think it wouldn't be too bad - it's only one day a year. Just be careful you don't have lots of 'only one day a year' eg everyones birthdays etc!

I might have one if someone else makes them in our house, otherwise I can't be bothered either! I'm not even sure what shrove Tuesday is about, and why it relates to pancakes!

Edit: thanks to Wikipedia, I see it is the day before lent (I assumed it was lent already, it usually is by now?), so you eat up stuff before lent hence pancakes. That sounds familiar, I'm sure I've heard that before, well now I've got a year to forget it again! Oh well, can't remember everything I suppose.

I can't eat wheat, how do you make them with ground almonds Jaykay?

I have pancakes and maple syrup regularly and it doesnt cause to much of a spike. om nom nom

I read somewhere that you can replace the flour with ground almonds and replace the milk with sparkling water, i may give it a try :D

Yes Sue, well kind of. I use plain water and more eggs than normal pancakes and cook them a bit thicker...more like American pancakes but they are yummy. I don't measure ( sorry ) but it will be something like 100g ground almonds, 2 eggs and a big splash of water! Have fun! My favourite topping is bananas, low carb maple syrup and cream. Well, if you're going to break a rule, break it good and hard :D

Hi again, Many thanks for your thoughts... :D

Could this recipe be a suitable option?

Malc.

I won't have to worry about them since I haven't had them since my Mother used to make them each year when I lived at home. Then of course I could have sugar and lemon juice on them :)

I'm having one! If I've done my maths properly, a 'normal' pancake mix has about 10g carbs per portion (excluding toppings) which isn't too bad really. I just have to make sure it's only the one

If thats right Jessie then 2 would be 20g about the same as an apple!! Hardly the end of the world if you are fairly well controlled

If you want 1 or 2 then they're not going to kill you are they? As a special treat I've had much worse

But personally pancakes have always been a bit of a let down for me never quite tasting as good as I expected which was why I stood in our kitchen last week for half an hour making a pile of pancakes for my 16 year old son Harry and didnt even have one bite (smug smiley)

Everything in moderation

I've posted this recipe before - it's unbelievable:

eggs
cream cheese

and that is all. (I *THINK* last time I made them I used 1/2 a tub of cream cheese to 2 eggs).

Just whisk it all together til you get a thick(ish) batter consistency, then chuck in in a frying pan/crepe pan for a couple of minutes on each side, and you're laughing! Bit of sweetener on top and some lemon juice/sutana's, and you're done!

You won't believe it 'til you try it. It's got that soft, almost doughy texture to it.

Also works great with savoury toppings.

[I've also tried adding ground almonds to the mix - it bulks it right up, and goes well with bacon and mushrooms as a breakfast pancake.]

Thats NO Pancake !!!!! Next replace Tuesday with Thursday

Thats all crêpes to me

Find the ducking stool :D

Lent is a festival.
In the past it was a long, strict religious fast when people with overactive thyroids
gave up all rich food. The day before Lent starts is known as Shrove Tuesday.

I shall be having 2......yes 2 traditional made pancakes and who cares what happens ! I won't be stuffing myself with them every day. It is one day in the year and like Xmas not for messing with. I shall be having Lemon, real sugar and possibly some Golden Syrup as well !!!!

Can't be bothererd looking for alternatives and stuff....Almond Flour.....Yuk !

When I became a Diabetic I didn't give up living........just enjoy it peeps ! Lifes too short.

A confirmed reduced carber too.......

I'll be having 2 and no more, I enjoy them more as a savoury snack and put some bacon and cheese inside and rolled like a wrap .....not good for the cholesterol I know..... but they are delicious! :D

I LOVE the alt. ones that I make. I hardly ever make 'em, but they're great. ZERO impact on my BG. In fact - I prefer 'em to flour pancakes. Less stodgy.

There must be a way to make 'em a bit stronger so that they can be used as hand held wraps. Protein powder, maybe?

(I quite like the idea of chocolate spread n' peanut butter... )
