Are you eating enough fat ? My insulin needs changed ( higher ) and I have a half teaspoon of butter before a meal and and my insulin takes me a lot further. In keto, we need fat. It slows gluconeogenisis form protein as well as the few carbs we have. Seems weird eating butter but if it’s kerrry gold it’s golden. I don’t pound tablespoons , jus a bit.
My fasting are running higher. Probably cold weather. I’m experimenting with a butter snack before bed.
I listen to my body but I also know different fats do different things.I sometimes put cheese with my meal. Cook the bacon and eggs in rapeseed oil or olive oil as recommended by the most recent LCHF book I’ve been reading. Blood sugars have been going up and I need more insulin. I’m feeling more weak and needing more rest than normal. Could be an ME flare up but not sure why
How do I know how much fat is too little or too much ?
I listen to my body but I also know different fats do different things.
Saturated fat like chicken skins, bacon grease, the fat layer off a steak or chop, a fatty burger raise me more and keep me higher than olive oil, mayo, a few nuts. Nownthe butter seems to lower me by slowing everything down. The protein and the carbs. It also an MCT so it gets metabolized differently. I can’t pound loads of fat. Bothers my stomach. It just sits there.
Is that your morning meal? I would need lots of insulin for that amount of protein in the morning. Do you see a difference when you add the cheese or leave it off?
What’s your carb and protein level? I need my avocado with protein to balance the meal. I can never just eat protein and fat with gluconeogenisising really fast. I do need a few carbs and the avo has fiber to slow things.
Yes that has been my breakfast. Not noticed much difference when I add cheese or not at the mo although I’ve not put cheese in it for a few days.
At lunch I’ve had salmon or chicken with some greens or small salad.
Similar for dinner. Predominantly greens.
