Hi,
As you know I had an appointment with my GP on the 18th and he said he was going to ask the patholigist to do further tests.

This morning I had an unexpected phone call from our Local Hospital stating that my urgent Abdominal Ultra Scan was at 2.50pm tomorrow!!! I knew absolutely nothing about this and it has knocked me sideways :(

It seems my Liver has a major problem....I am not to eat or drink for 7 hours before hand. So does that mean no Insulin injection in the morning??

I am so very worried and concerned now....I cannot even get hold of my wife at work to let her know.

 :?

Hi Mervyn

It would be worth ringing the hospital department that you will be attending for advice. They might even be able to change you to an early morning appointment so that it doesn't interfere with your insulin.

Hope all goes well for you.

Hi,
Have spoken to them...it is 2.50pm there or 12.30pm at a small clinic further away and more difficult for me to reach so really a couple of hours will not make much difference to my Insulin injection. To be honest I am now just desperate to get it over with and then wait for however many days to get the results of my GP.

To be honest, I don't want to jump the gun, but several things have been happening in the last few months and I had noticed a "lump" in the top middle right of the abdomen, about the level of the last rib on the right hand side.

I am trying to be positive but I am honestly not finding it too easy. :(

Mervyn...
They could have just had a cancellation ? and slotted you in quick with your appt.
It does happen, it happened to me !
Do try not to panic as this will make you feel more worried and stressed.
With regards to taking your insulin on the day of the scan, I would be inclined to ring the scan dept up
explain to them about your insulin shot, get their advice on this .
Hope you have managed to get in touch with your lovely wife and talk things through.
Do let us know how you go on as we are here for you.
Much love and thoughts.
Anna.x :)

Hi Anna,
The cancellation theory enabling a quick appt is ok apart from a couple of things.

First she offered the scan for tomorrow at different times at three different locations. It would be nice to think they all coincidentally had cancellations for tomorrow. Secondly I had no idea that I was to have a scan. All the GP said at my appt was that he was ordering more tests from the Path lab on the bloods that had already been taken.

As regards the Insulin...I telephoned my DNS with an urgent message..she replied telling me she had a clinic this morning so I quickly explained the situation and she promised to call me back at Midday when she finished clinic. At this time she has yet to telephone back. I have not managed to talk to the wife. I know that she will not be able to accompany me tomorrow as she has one of her staff off with a broken ankle and as the wife is the boss she has to stay and cover.

I am trying very hard to stay focused and not worry too much but it is difficult.

Thanks for your help.

Update

Update:...Well they did my Scan about an hour early so that was lucky...I must say though I left probably feeling more concern than when I went in.

They are so deadpan that you cannot read anything to it, and I was unable to see anything on the screen. He just said the results will be about 3 days so see your GP.

He scanned whilst on was on my back, lying on my right side and lying on my left side. Although I never mentioned my "lump" to him but he did seem to concentrate on that area for quite a while.

As I say he never told me a thing and the only thing I heard was him telling the nurse very quietly stage 2 whatever that may meen?

The scan itself was totally non invasive and the only thing I did not like was the perfumed smell of the gel they use. I found the smell quite sickly.

I will update as soon as I know more.

Thanks once again for all your support and thoughts.

Mervyn x

Mervyn, it's likely the technician concentrated on that particular area as that is where your liver and gallbladder are situated, they did exactly the same with me. My technician told me the results immediately, there and then (although she did say that I would have to get the definitive results from my GP), it's obviously different in different hospitals/areas.

Please update us as and when you can.

Hi Mervyn. Please let us know what they say when your results come in. Look at it as a positive that they didn`t drag you into some doctors office to talk to you.
