Well I was diagnosed in January, had the usual advice, been to see the dietician, got my eye drops in next week.
The thing is I got myself a meter, and have been testing - not religiously but enough to know my bs is not under 6. Even got it to 14 after a bowl of All Bran. Anyway got another blood test next month, if my bs hasn't come down despite low carbing (the bowl of All Bran was a desperate measure one evening cos I was starving) and working hard with a kettlebell will metformin sort it? Will it bring my sugars down in addition to low carbing, Gawd I'm repeating myself.

Hi. Metformin is a good drug but won't have that much effect on your BS perhaps 1 or 2% Hba1c. Best thing is to keep on low-carbing and see what your next Hba1C is. In the meantime if your BS measurements start to take off into the teens do contact your surgery in case you are a Type 1 LADA needing more urgent attention.

Sorry but had to laugh at that. It sounds like you were trying to aim high. Metformin should help a bit.

Are you feeling hungry with the low carbing? I am finding that adding protein helps. And chicken or tuna doesnt have a lot of calories if you are trying to lose weight too. But you might not be calorie counting also.

Thanks for responding, hope I'm not type 1.
It was 15 last night, gulp. I have about 1 and 1/2 stone to lose so not seriously overweight.
I'm vegetarian so its hard work sometimes to come up with new tasty stuff. But I'm sticking at it, its just frustrating to have low carbed for 3 mths and not see any results with bs.
lol when I read it back it does seem like I'm trying to get my bs up.

Metformin will help to drop bg levels by 1 to 2 mmol/L not 1 to 2% its not a magic bullet but it has an element of appetite suppressant due to the way it works so can help you loose weight if you need to which in turn will reduce your insulin resistance which in turn will lower your bg levels more But you will still need to change your lifestyle in a big way and which ever way you choose you will have to accept that that change will be for the rest of your life.

Hi Sid, I have changed my lifestyle - not that it needed much tweeking. Its a ****** really, been veggie for 5 yrs dont drink dont smoke what do you do!!! Theres a song there somewhere. Actually I do smoke' gonna knock it on the head sometime soon.
