Will my vision return to normal again

Hi all, I was newly diagnosed type 2 nidd and I have been taking metaformin bd now 2x daily and gliclizide 2x daily. I woke up yesterday and my vision was very blurry and today it is the same very blurry. I have trouble reading text messages emails and paperwork. I have prescription glasses and when I put them on its even worse. I am currently waiting on a call back from the diabetic nurse but I am worried I have done to much damage and my vision won't return to normal. I'm doing medication along with strict keto
 
yes for me it returned after a while. hopefully your vision will also return back to normal.
 
Hi welcome to the forum @sez323 Don’t worry too much about what’s happening with your eyesight, it’s a very common occurrence in the newly diagnosed.

You will have been running high blood sugars for a while and this affects the fluid in the eyes, as you get your blood sugar under control your eyesight will begin to return to normal, it’s well known advice not to get an eye test in the first couple of months since diagnosis as your vision will change and your specs will be useless.

Like I say try not to worry :)
 
Hi @sez323 and welcome to the forum.
Type 2's sometimes get a temporary blurring of vision when they reduce their blood glucose by 'too much too quickly'. It usually lasts from a week to 3 months as the eyes adjust to 'the new normal blood glucose leels'. So get a cheap pari of new space from somewhere like a Pound shop. Don't pay opticians prices because it's most unlikely that it will be temporary.
You were probably just a bit too keen (and not forewarned).

I'm glad it's not permanent and that makes sense to me now. I guess I Have to be patient as there's nothing I can really do
 
As a side note I noticed you are on Gliclizide and are doing strict keto, be aware that gliclizide can lower numbers dramatically and cause hypos, make sure you are testing right before eating and 2 hours after first bite to make sure your not too low (blurry eyesight can one of the signs of a hypo)

If you see a trend of too low numbers 4 or less then contact your HCP to discuss lowering your medication

It's expected if your blood sugar level changes rapidly. Happened to me, and it was close-up focusing that was the problem, as you'd excpect. The refractive index of the aqueous and vitreous humors in the eyeball changes as the glucose concentration in them changes, and your eyes and brain need some time to adjust.

I bought some cheap reading glasses for £1 a pair and used those with my own glasses/lenses until it sorted itself out. Took about two weeks, I think.

Hi yes, the lowest they have been is 6.6 I have been told that when my blood sugars stabilise then I should come off them. I do my blood sugars before and 2 hours after food. I also have to check them before I drive

That's the same with me close up vision is blurry
 
That happened to me as well, and resolved itself within a couple of weeks.
