Would it be worth it?

If I were to eat healthy foods every second day and not eat on the other day?
Would it be healthier than not so good food every day?
But still eat at 5 since I would still have the health issues.
I say every second day because I wouldn't have enough funds to buy for every day if I actually bought better foods.
By this I mean some real vegetables and raspberries. Protein still presents a challenge but anyway.
Is this idea better?

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but could you grow some greens somewhere? If you can tolerate them. Growing some cut and come again lettuce, rocket or similar. Would give you access to some vegetables for very little. You only need a container, soil and a packet of seeds. They could be grown on a windowsill. There are other things too like spring onions that keep going if you just chop the green parts off.

In terms of eating every 48 hours, it seems such a small amount to consume. You'd have to try and increase the calories somehow I think personally.

I'm moving in a few months and there's a little garden spot at the front. The only thing I can't figure out is how to prevent or stop humans stealing any of what's planted.

The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!

Windowsill garden, I did that when I was in a flat years ago. I had tomatoes and all sorts growing in pots. Lettuce is easy to grow and a sunny windowsill is a bonus.

You can grow well indoors. I have an ikea two tier planter with cheap to run led grow lights that gives radish and lettuce as well as coriander and basil. I prefer growing radishes as they’re quick and the leaves make a great pesto too. Not much waste at all. You don’t have to buy a purpose built set up for this and can quite easily make one. Amazon or eBay etc sell really cheap grow lights, then you just need to get a waterproof container to grow in an fix the lights above.

I guess the biggest issue with gardening is the start up costs.
Everything non food comes straight out of my food budget. I'm maxed out for other things.

As others have said"frozen is cheaper."
Also if you are going for fresh fruit and veg, buy loose rather than pre-packed, most of the time it works out a lot cheaper and you'll have less wastage.

I’ve seen reports that frozen can be better than fresh due to food being frozen when at height of nutrition. If fresh in store, probably harvested before ready to keep it from getting too ripe. Growing yourself would be ideal.

I eat a lot of frozen veggies. Beans, cottage cheese and chicken are good sources of protein.

Changing to nutritious food has really helped me feel better.

My family suggested maybe eating every other day might allow me to go off the insulin.
So not only would I eat better being able to buy better food every second day but maybe I'd be able to go off insulin.
I'm still considering this avenue.
The thing that's held me back so far is the horrendous hunger.
I feel like such a pig being so hungry all the time when I do not eat too much. It's not like I'm a pig or anything.

Hi, yes intermittent fasting is absolutely amazing for the body and after 24 hrs your cells will be renewing and it will definitely help with the hunger, it will also lower your glucose so it should reverse any insulin resistance as you won’t be spiking it.
I often go many hours without eating and most days only have one meal, I really want to go a whole day without eating so that I can reset my body, it is very healing ❤️ all the best.

Do be careful fasting, you need to monitor your glucose levels, I fasted overnight and didn't eat until 5pm, my readings were 3.5 so hypoglycemic levels.

Just to remind - fasting is a conscious act to not eat for metabolic, or religious reasons. But of course this Forum is about the treatment for diabetes connection, so - it's for metabolic reasons. And there are eating disordered motivations also. (I won't deal with hunger strikes! but there is that.)

Starving is when it is not a conscious act, but brought about by outside forces. Not having enough money to buy food to bring about satiety does not fulfil the fasting for metabolic health criteria. It's super serious and important. And absolutely deserving of our attention. One of the most important issues for us as humans for sure. To have enough water, and nutrition to surivive is our number one priority after all in the survival stakes.

But, this issue is not fasting for health. Fasting is not about when lowered weight is a great side effect from forced starvation! Or lowered blood glucose as a side effect also of forced starvation. I would suggest.

I am suggesting that this thread be in the nutrition sub-forum for this reason. (Lack of adequate nutrition due to poverty.) What do you think @cdpm? Or, anyone else?

@mojo37 The OP has said in previous posts that they have no teeth, sore gums and has either very little freezer space or hasn't got a freezer (I can't quite remember which). They are also many foods they cannot eat.
