Writing BG Management App

85g of carbs is quite a lot to increase in one go. However, only going to 9.6g is probably not too bad. That is the way your pancreas learns. I normally increase mine by about 40g at a time for a few days and then go go up again. Remember when you increase carbs you will need to reduce the fat/protein intake. Your levels seem very good. I think I am up to around 200g carbs per day now.

I am surprised the DN put you on Met with a diagnoses level of 57 without even talking you through diet and exercise. Have your fasting levels normalised yet?

I had a bit of success yesterday. I went out for an anniversary meal (26 years) with my wife yesterday and ate steak with loads of chips and a huge portion of bakewell pudding with ice cream and at 1 hour after I was at 7.6 and at 2 hours I was at 6.8 without any exercise. I was excepting double figures!

Andrew - is the latest version of your app on the same link as v3, I think it was? I may have a bit of time to tinker to get my own data into it this morning........

I must admit I am so envious of your courage in increasing your carbs as you are doing. Being a wuss, with an apparent phobia of larger leading numbers, I'm going exceptionally slowly.

I'm going to have a fresh blood panel done next week, which will take me ages to convert from the US style reporting we have here. Then I have made a pact with my OH to try harder on reintroducing foods. The poor man feels uncomfortable eating things I like(d) in front of me.

Sorry for daft question but is there a link to download this ? Thanks, Mo

@mo1905 Download linked file - it will end up in your downloads folder

Still no luck. They won't open. Thanks for trying though !

I'm having a dim moment, and cant get concatentation to work, to merge date and time columns. Grrrrrrrrr!!

It may be time for me to wake my brain up from this tropical slumber!!!

oh never though about separate date/time columns. You should be able to make a formula in excel to do that for you probably just add the fields

Andrew,
Aren't you lucky you can eat chips and puddings now! Congrats on 26th anniversary. I think you have kicked your pancreas to start working again, with initially going into starvation mode. I wanted to do that but it was so difficult and my fat around the tummy would not budge.also didnt have any energy to do exercises.
I think DN game me met because she wants me to take satin later as my cholesterol is 5.1. I am slightly worried with my low carb regime as i eat butter and concern that my cholesterol would go up. She said I would loose weight with met. I think it is a good idea to increase the carb gradually.
I do not know what to say about the file you have created only thought came to mind was OMG this is excellent. I hope lot of people would start using it. My conclusion was you must be in IT

Yes I am in IT - I architect large systems for clients. I do this sort of thing for fun.

I understand about it becoming hard and energy getting low but I did find that didnt last for too long and luckily I was on Christmas holidays when I was diagnosed so that made it slightly easier.

My DN even a month ago still wanted me to consider Met because of its other benefits but then I reminder her about the reaction I had to it (after picking myself up off the floor). She also wanted me to go on statins on diagnoses even thigh my number was below 5 but Doc didn't want that. He was more worried about my BP at 179/100 which is down to 129/80 although I get a large variance from day to day.

I think you will lose weight with Met as you will feel less hungry but only if you eat until the point the hunger stops. I still do some days like this. The best thing I found to stop hunger in its tracks is raw carrot. I can't explain it.

@AndBreathe
Tested combining date and time fields for you (in libre office and not excel but should be the same). Just add the columns in a new one

if you paste a copy of a line from your excel I will help you create your input string.

Thanks @Andrew Colvin. I tried both your method and the =concatenate formula to no avail. I thought I was losing it.

I'm on my iPad at present, and about to have my swim, so I'll look at it again later. I may have meddled with the file too much, removing redundant lines and headers, so I'll try a newly exported file.

"We" love a challenge. :)

Andrew,
I am good with numbers but not so good when it comes to computers hence need some help.
I downloaded both files into my google drive and able to enter my data but do not know how to save as there is no option to save. Any ideas how I can overcome this? I do not have too much data to enter as I was checking my BS only in the mornings initially. (Feb and March around high 6,s even 7.1 one day and April seems fine with 4's and 5.5,s -due to low carb) I intend to introduce carbo and exercise to the meter and will be checking BS levels few times a day.
Even though you may get these data on your meters, the fact that you get charts/graphs at a glance over a period and then you click on any variance to see the reason, is very useful. Initially it may take sometime to get used to using the spreadsheet (i did spend sometime trying to download and trying to save) but it is worth it. According the spreadsheet my HBA1C is 36, +20% it is 53. I could do better and I should. Having a close look at numbers in future definitely would help.
Got the exercise bike out of the corner into the living room burned 600 cal, of course not at one go!
Please let me know how to save my data on the spreadsheet.
Thank you

As you enter your numbers they are automatically saved. When you open it next time they are automatically loaded for you. There is a database inside the application. It will create a directory in your "Home" folder called BGDB (home varies depending on what OS you are using). All your data is stored in there.

You need a java virtual machine which does not exist on an android platform. I would need to re-write it for android. It should run anywhere that you find java 1.7
