Well I certainly see why you think Type 2, especially if you only use Apidra as a bolus insulin for meals. Is it correct that you do not take any basal long acting insulin since coming off a mixed insulin? Also re your Type 1 diagnosis have you ever had c-peptide and GAD (+others) antibody tests?
But if reclassified as a Type 2, what practical lifestyle benefits are you looking for? If you continue to take even a small amount of injected insulin I am not aware of anything, especially as you have demonstrated such consistent long term BG control under your current regime.
However, if you are interested in seeing if you can come off insulin completely, that is a different matter -
a) very much reduced risk of hypos
b) so much easier with DVLA if you are a driver - no need for "medical" license (might take a bit of time and bureaucracy to reinstate) and no need for numerous BG tests before and during driving.
