went to see the nurse last week, roughly a year since diagnosis
Well she went through the weight, BP and feet, noted that my BP was high, " only when I come to the doctors I said" and showed her my charts , which she requested 6 months ago and already had on her computer.
Then she asked " How much do you drink?" I told her since last May I gave up beer totally but since xmas I have had a couple of pints now and again, maybe once a month. I told her I drink red wine, about a glass a night ( some weeks none at all) , well armed with this information she couldn't wait to get out her chart and start lecturing me about units . Informed me that it's no longer 21 units, it's now 14 and my red wine intake 6 or 7 glasses ( approx 2 bottles a week) was borderline.
Well I seen red (no pun intended), " Borderline what ? who makes up these random figures, what does it mean. Surely tou should be more worried about damage to my liver from diabetes ?" I asked . " Is it the same idiots that tell diabetics that it's ok to eat carbs and not to test blood?
I told her, "I have had absolutly no help or support from you or the doctor since diagnosis. I was given Metformin told not to test eat the EatBad Plate and come back in a month. I have self funded my own test strips and yet you now want a copy of all my glucose charts, It's little wonder my BP is high" I was very cross.
I stumbled across this site and went LCHF straight away, I made a lot of mistakes in the early days with fruit and shredded wheat but soon, with the help of my meter, got my BG back into normal range

Anyway the resuls May 2017 nearly 18st, June 2018 13st 4lbs ( would like to lose another stone but not going to lose any sleep over it) and Blood glucose May 2017 95 now ......wait for it.............big drum roll
32 !!!!!!!!!
achieved only by the help and support of people on this forum,
thank you all !

seeing the doctor next week to discuss what happens next ? Probably end up arguing with him when he mentions Statins

Well done, great results! :)
Yes I was told I didn't need a meter and was then told off for not testing my FBG one day because I simply forgot!

Just wondering, was there anything you did right according to your DN? It sounds as if she was desperate to find something, ANYthing to berate you for, and I can't help wondering why, because you achieved excellent results with your diet. Could that be why? LCHF?

Probably because her entire reason for being there was being challenged. If we can get results like these by completely ignoring what we are told ....

Yes, I found it strange too. I suppose they like to be in control and in my case she's not. I've done everything she told me not too with amazing results. I had a routine colonoscopy last month ( old man's MOT) , the nurses in the hospital were the total opposite , wanted to know how I'd achieved it etc even the consultant was imressed asked me about this site and wrote it down. I got no "Well done " not that I need it just " oh this is wrong etc. Might change doctors TBH

So exasperating, though. Thankfully I have yet to come across that type, and when I did tell one of the endo docs that I'd cut back on carbs, he didn't seem surprised or against it in any way.

Maybe you should. Even if you don't need the "well done" it's nice for reassurance and that feel-good experience :)

I think hospitals treat you and your condition differently to the GP's surgery. They are far more open . The nurse asked me what I ate and said lots of eggs, she was just about to tell me how bad eggs were, when I stopped her and said " Even the NHS likes eggs now!!"

I ended up having a major row a year or so ago with one of the nurses about those pesky "essential carbs" so gave up and walked out.

Well done you!!!! Try not to let the Doctor make you feel bad after your hard work, I truly think they are conditioned to lecture people on something, anything! I am not overweight, I don't drink or smoke, I exercise every day, I eat low carb and low fat mainly due to preference, all of it made from scratch, I do everything by the book (not that stupid eatwell plate), but I have high cholesterol. After discussing all of that with the Doctor (every other number was spot on), she said well stop eating cheese, even though she knew I ate one matchbox size piece of cheddar a day!

Well done, young man. Sock it to 'em!

Very well done on your yearly results, in spite of the lack of support from your surgery and nurse!

How did she respond to that? :) I like my GP as a person, but I don't like the idea of seeing her for my T2. I'm sure she wouldn't have a go at me for what I'm eating, as long as I'm keeping my condition under control, but being an outpatient with the endo people at the hospital is so much more convenient, as they do all check-up right there. Also I'm sure that they have a lot of specialised knowledge that she doesn't. Unfortunately I hear that most T2 patients in Denmark are to be treated by their GPs in future.

Well done!

I think the problem with the official advice is medical staff are often only following orders, ie the official guidance is still the EatBad plate. Luckily, thanks to the efforts here and by other doctors and specialists, the LCHF message is slowly getting through and it's going from being a 'fad' diet to something that's recognised as being very effective.

I gave you a 'funny' because your story reminded me of my late mother in law and a visit to the dentist, who told her to stop drinking tea because her teeth were a bit discoloured. "but I don't drink tea ...". Dentist: "coffee then!". MiL " I don't drink coffee". Dentist: "red wine!!! MiL "but I... " Dentist"ARGHHH" :hilarious:

I'd liked to have been the proverbial fly on that nurse's wall, since you were the one in her ointment. :)

Brilliant results. All respect to you. Glad you didn't let her bully you. My DN is a retired nurse who does the clinic once a fortnight. She still works on the Eatbad plate rules and hasn't got a single clue about LCHF. I told her she needed to get the Xpert book that goes with the course that diabetic patients were being sent on from our surgery.

With that attitude she had it obviously hadn't occurred to her that a "patient" could possibly be more informed than she was. She left fairly soon afterwards thankfully.
