Ypsomed loop / Medtronic 780g/ Tslim

I don’t pump, but On meeting with @Juicyj she’s almost sold it to me..

I'm in the process of choosing between Medtronic 780g and Tandem tslim as well. I'm fairly certain I'm going with the Tandem, but wasn't aware it 'never learnt' your patterns. That's interesting, as I thought it reacted initially and learnt them that way, but I'm obviously mistaken.

Hi when is your insight getting recalled because I also use one and have been told its being recalled by no date has been set yet. I'm eager to get things sorted but seem to be getting nowhere fast.

I am also having to change and seeing pump reps early August to choose. I like the omnipod but will decided when I see.

I have the insight but am no longer with my diabetic team that gave it to me. I've not heard anything about the actual pump getting recalled. I no longer live in an area where insight is used

Good news just got an e mail to say I'll be changing over to the t slim once a date has been arranged for the rep to come in and show me how to use it. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Without a shadow of doubt i'd go T-Slim any day of the week, it's a really reliable system when working alongside the Dexcom G6, Medtonic sensors from my knowledge can be unreliable. I use mine with the steel tip cannula set for bomb proof reliability, I don't trust teflon sets in the slightest as had loads of fails on those, it auto adjusts basal with the Control IQ functionality so I can go to sleep with high levels and it will bring me down during sleep to a comfortable 5.5-6 mmol/l, it's taken so much stress out of managing my type 1, you still won't avoid hypos as these inevitably can and do happen but they are much easier to manage with this system as you don't crash so low and hypos are less frequent as the system stops insulin once you go below your preset threshold, I tend to low carb on this system though to avoid bolus miscalculations which also helps greatly too but generally means I can eat protein and not bother taking insulin as the pump auto corrects if I start to run high.

I think I should be on commission from T-Slim for this but yes it's the best pump available.

Hi to use the sleep mode do you have to have a dexcom or can it be used without?

From what another tslim user has told me, the tslim is reactive. So it will increase basal if you start going high or decrease if you start going low, but it always defaults back to your original basal program and doesn’t ‘remember’ if it happens again. Whereas Medtronic can spot that you always go high on a Tuesday afternoon and will adjust the original programme slightly for Tuesdays going forward. ‍

All I can say is my tandem/Dexcom combo reacts well and works really hard to keep my glucose level. I do low carb too. My hba1c has gone down to 48 from 54-64. I think a pattern spotting algorithm might go crazy with my rather random blood sugars but will be interested to hear how well it works in real life.

I didn't choose . I got the Control Iq. I think the OP implied that the tandem pumps have only a reactive algorithmn rather than a learning one? Maybe it is a learning one. I have not seen any kind of specialist in over 2 years now so have no idea what's going on underneath the water! Just that it works for me plus low carb.
If I do go high low carb then it struggles to catch up with my spike which is characteristic of exogenous insulin I suppose.

Oh sorry, I thought in one of your other posts you'd said you were on Basal IQ, I must have been mistaken.

Hello Naomi, I’m on the insight pump, hate it and hate the novo rapid vials of insulin, I’ve had the pump since it’s been out, 8 years now ( this is the 4th or 5th one I’ve had, as they just kept failing) I have 42 days left until the warranty runs out, and wishing that it couldn’t come quicker.

I’m in the exact situation as you Naomi, I looked at what you have and I’ve opted for the tslim basal, after weighing everything up, this looks the best pump. Sadly I have to self fund the dexcom, but it may funded later on, who knows?

This pump I’m on and novo rapid insulin has been a nightmare, when I went on it, I said to accu chek it needs more testing as it just wasn’t right, I’ve written to Novo Nordisk, complaining about the insulin vials with bubbles in the vials, i sent back 57 vial’s all with bubbles! i have only found this out in the last 4 months, as every time I changed the inset, my bloods went into the high 20s and sometimes at 32/33.

Novo said their is nothing wrong, I worked in the pharmaceuticals and I can tell you, their is something wrong, and hey presto, they ( novo) have now admitted problems with the vials not delivering the correct amount.

I have around 42 days left, as the pump runs out of warranty, then I can get my tslim, and I can’t wait!

No letter received. Not with the clinic that put me on insight and new clinic doesn't do it. I've had accucheck email to recall dodgy cannulas and tubing but no mention of the pump

Hi there
I too have an insight pump and being in the 50+ age bracket it is all a bit of a minefield.
I have been offered the Medtronic 780, the Tandem T slim or Omnipod.
Personally any advice as to which is easiest to use would be most helpful.
I have good control EVEN with the insight pump.
Not sure which models of these pumps being offered though.
Please help.

You need Dexcom for both Control IQ and Basal IQ, the sleep mode will only work with Dexcom connected as does the exercise mode too. If you do not have Dexcom then the pump becomes a basic pump like the Insight your on now.
