Now I am just livid with Dexcom. My iphone 13 pro with the latest ios is not supported. It sometimes didn't alert, so I went ahead and updated it with the latest Dexcom ap version. But with the latest update they have something called critical alerts that comes up on your alerts and won't go away until you tap the screen. Whether you are on your phone or playing a game. A big banner that hides part of your screen. I turned off my alerts it was so annoying. You are supposed to be able to have banners be temporary, nope.... you are supposed to be able to turn off banners......nope. You have to turn off everything and get no alerts, it's all or nothing. So I dug out my iphone 8 which had the older version on it. Cool I had my old system back. As of tonight it now says I must update it for it to work............no readings at all. So they are forcing the screwy update on us, no matter what. That's all I want, everything is labeled a critical alert now and interrupts everything you are doing. I am so mad at Dexcom now. This disease is hard enough without us being able to decide what alert system we want on OUR phone.

I guess I do NightScout now.

I'm using a samsung and haven't come across "critical alerts" yet, shudder. But am totally sick of the fact that when ever I open the app I have to scroll through a warning screen first. Apparently dexcom is still testing the app on my operating system, and I have to read this every time I open it, for the last n months.

I've only just now read this, three hours after I updated Dexcom app. Pity! I can see how annoying it will be.

Hi @Marie 2 ,

I can kind of understand D alerts getting in the way of the non D use of an Apple product..
Though I use An Android phone with Libre2, I have recently replaced my 10 year old mini iPad with a later mini 6.
It’s just a big phone. (Of sorts.) But my suggestion might help? Have you gone into settings/ notifications/ then unclicked (in ticked.) “banners” in the app list?

Hope this helps. I do music on my iPad & other band members in a conversation messenger chain can have a habit of stunting my creativity with intrusive banners, regarding any spontaneous “chit chat.”

I hope this can have relevance to your particular issue..

@ElenaP It depends which phone you have, iphone 13 and also the ios version I have is not supported so the app didn't always alert in the first place, that is the only reason I downloaded the new Dexcom update. Lot's of complaints though all around. But some it doesn't seem to be affecting them or as least as much.

@Jaylee The banners are supposed to be temporary set up in apple notifications, but they aren't.Turn off banners and they still came up. To get them to stop I had to shut off notifications under the Dexcom settings and the iphone settings. You can't turn off critical alerts at all or you can't use the app. And now critical alerts are every single alert.

So I deleted the ap and went back to my iphone 8 with an older version and I guess Dexcom had a built in expired date for it. And now it is says you have to upgrade it to use it. So I reloaded the Dex app on my iphone 13. And even though banners are off and all notifications are off on the Dexcom I am getting flashes of banners sometimes lol.

Some people are having issues with brand new Androids too. But you have better work arounds for that.

You know there is this control issue that keeps popping up. And voices always need to be heard. Originally here one of the new pumps was only going to be able to be originally programmed by the doctor. Then after you could change the settings, but so could the doctor on the computer. People screeched and they backed off of that idea pretty quick. This tech is supposed to make our life easier, more alerts when you don't need them is not high on the list of making our life calmer.

I agree the tech should make life easier. One device that can be tailored to user requirements.
For me. My Android phone is a communication device whilst out & about? But primarily a BG monitor & music player.
Lol, I actually use my iPad more than my phone? 10 years ago. The first one was an extravagant purchase I thought would wear off with the “novelty.” In that decade, I discovered diabetic friendly apps I can use to sync Apple & android.

Dexcom may have upgraded to some sort of “fail safe” improvement to cover their backs? (Lower the chances of a “lawsuit” on the product?)

A pain for the initiated sensor user…

@Jaylee I have heard they are getting lots of complaints. Dex responded with.....

"Thank you for reaching out! We understand the issue some Users are experiencing with Critical Alerts and while we work to assess a solution, you do have the option to turn off your "Always Sound". This will stop the overriding of the mute/DND. To turn off Always Sound in Settings > Alert settings. Always Sound turns notifications into Critical Alerts because Critical Alerts (by Apple) are the only way we can override Mute/DND. Another option you may find helpful to stop the alerts is to choose "Vibrate Only" per alert. We do appreciate you letting us know as our Product team is taking customer feedback to find a better a solution with Apple alerts to be less intrusive. Hope this helps! My phone is iPhone SE, with iOS 15.6.1.
Perhaps my previous update didn't work (which was fortunate) because now I have received the same message: 'New G6 app update is available. The G6 app update can run on iOS 16. Don't upgrade to iOS 16 without updating the G6 app.'
It looks as if keeping the current Dexcom app is not an option after the iOS 16 update.

@ElenaP I guess they have "expired" their app's versions. So after a certain length of time, you have to update it. Whether your phone is compatible or not. Some are running into that their older phones won't work at all as it won't take the new update and the new phones don't work right because they are not compatible. I would not have updated mine except I was already having issues with the app and it wasn't on the compatible list. They want you to update with the new phones and ios because the only way to make sure alerts come through is to make sure everything's a critical alert. I would have preferred the sometimes not working than phone calls being hung up on or blaring sounds while I was on the phone. Now I have to go into settings and constantly change on off etc.

They are blaming Apple and saying to complain to Apple about their critical alerts, which is ridiculous. Apple’s critical alerts is for flood warnings etc that happen in a blue moon type of thing, not an override that basically we hear probably a few times a day, every day. That Dexcom chose that route because it was easiest to write code or ? it is all on Dexcom.
