Type 2 Life

Harleylooyar! as one of my little friends once wrote - at last the quest is over! I'm really envious at the thought of these chips enjoy
Lol! I just finished eating them and pretty yummy they were too. I used onion salt instead of the standard salt and pepper the recipe suggested and I'm glad I did! Next time I think I'll bake them for a little longer, they were a little underdone but as a first experiment I'm quite happy with how they turned out. My pre meal reading was 6.6 so now it's a case of wait and see what effect they've had on my BG

@Diamum5972 sounds yummy chips- drool! it will be interesting to see what your 2hrs readings are
@liam River City is a Scottish soap set in West Scotland made by BBC Scotland with gangsters, romances, topical storylines- a sort of Glasweigan EastEnders
@doolallylady thanks for the giggles (and the kind words)
Everybody - good night speak tomorrow

Lol I like the sound of River City, sounds better than the original EE! Good night Anna, speak tomorrow xx

Edited to add - I just watched River City on iPlayer, I do prefer it to EastEnders!

Sorry I'm not trying to stop the chat. If the mod's are happy with us asking questions on the fasting readings thread then that would be far better to use as more people use it. I had been told to use this thread. Sorry just so mixed up.
This thread was started for any queries about the daily management of Type2 diabetes and associated problems as Admin had asked posters on the Type2 fasting thread to keep their posts within the parameters of fasting.
The trouble is that people forget that these threads are for everyone to use as they were intended and they soon became General Chat threads.
We have already have General Chat threads about the weather and what people are doing.

We don't really need a thread for Questions and Answers as people always get answers to questions that they ask. Forum members are always supportive and helpful and we already have a board devoted to this.
Hope this post explains things @Hiitsme

Drum roll please - my 2 hour post prandial is 7.8! Very pleased with that :)
Brilliant! So what exactly did you do to cook them? I have a fan (electric) oven. I like the idea of the flavoured salt, never heard of that - can you get it in Tesco?

Thanks :) I drizzled them with olive oil and onion salt and oven baked them at 200 c for 15 minutes. My oven is a conventional one so you'll need to adjust the temperature. I got my onion salt in Sainsburys so I would assume Tesco would do it as well

@TooManyCrisps - I have Garlic Salt and Celery Salt that I use in chutney making and NOT in everyday cooking, and nearly all the large supermarkets sell a variety of salts. Well Done @Diamum5972 that is a good blood sugar result.:)

Use of too much salt is not such a good idea.

I so rarely buy salt that I can't remember the last time I looked at salt in a supermarket. It sounds like it's fairly standard so will look in Tesco when I'm next there.... i tend to shop online which is very convenient but it means I am not very aware of new products.

Before you use added sodium you should take special care if you are on high blood pressure medication. It might also to be sensible to be sure that you are deficient before you supplement with sodium. A tool to help with looking at what sodium you might already be taking in with your diet can be found at: http://apjcn.nhri.org.tw/server/info/books-phds/books/foodfacts/html/data/data5a.html

Keep well

I always get my sodium, iron and cholesterol tested every 3 months along with my Hb test. I used to have high BP and I was on meds for it but since going LC I am off all meds now. Last year I had a real issue with dizziness and I had to add more salt into my diet which fixed it instantly.

This just came into my inbox as an update to clinical guidelines for primary care:

From the Guidelines team
Did you know that it is National Salt Awareness Week?
Many people realise that eating too much salt is bad for their health and are actively looking to lower their salt intake. This is in stark comparison to a few years ago when the effects of salt on health were largely unknown by the general public. Now, thanks to the efforts of the food industry, government, and health organisations like CASH (Consensus Action on Salt and Health), salt is on the public health agenda and many foods contain up to 50% less salt than they did 10 years ago.

Salt Awareness Week runs from Monday 29 February–Sunday 6 March, and along with the food industry and the government, healthcare professionals have a responsibility to their patients to educate and advise on the consequences of a high-salt diet. See www.actiononsalt.org.uk for more information and resources.
