Type 2 Life

I think it best to go as far as saying you may need it. Without testing or looking at the other dietary sources of sodium, to say that everyone who does vlc must sodium-supplement is a tad foolhardy and possibly dangerous. With something like sodium, I would want to make sure that there was a need to supplement rather than to rush into a possible cardiac arrest or stroke. If you get symptoms that could be those of a low serum sodium then it would be prudent to consult your GP with a view to having the appropriate blood test.

In the result of the latest study (published in 2015) the following was reported:

"SBP was higher in participants with elevated body mass indices (BMIs). Salt intake was positively associated with SBP in men but not in women."

While there is some conflict over the role of salt, would it not be wise to err on the side of caution, especially if you are a man?

As far as statins are concerned, people are now choosing not to begin them on account of possible side effects. In the light of the disputed views on salt consumption, and the possibility of adverse effects, logic would dictate that people would make the same decision on salt supplementation, especially if there is no confirmed sodium deficiency.

However, as you rightly intimate, we are all responsible for our own health and such decisions are ours to make and ours to live with.

The latest food fad here in Australia is Murray River salt - seems to be hitting the big time with gourmet chefs and gourmands :)

I wonder if there is a relationship between Carb and Salt intake. Since my Carb consumption has dropped to 50 or less I notice I don't go for the salt shaker nearly as much. No Chips, Potato etc all of which I buried in salt.
@Indy51 the Murray River Salt must be collected in South Australia as it is all fresh water in NSW

Morning everyone, hope you're all doing well.

The weather here is ridiculous , sun, wind, rain, hail, sleet and snow all in less than an hour. And hubby says I can't make up my mind, cheeky.

Hiya, just owning my agree. I had my regular nurses appointment this morning and on the way down there it was sunny with a few spots of rain. On the way back home (half an hour later) it was windy, rainy and not a trace of sun anywhere! We're also supposed to be getting sleet this afternoon, which is sods law because I go to a knitting group tonight!

@mo53 - Could it be your Blood Pressure is raised due to your cold ? And this is perhaps why you have had the headache's over the past couple of days. Also, when you are sick your body produces hormones to fight illness, and these same hormones raise the blood sugar. Which is why you need to test more than you do normally. If you don't feel like eating, try soups and drink plenty of fluids (sugar free) - but, do continue taking your diabetic medication. Take Care and Keep Warm Mo.:cat:

Yes, I had to put sunglasses on as i was driving to work as the sun was blinding. I looked out of the office window at lunchtime and it was sleet/snow, I've just left a meeting and driven home in sunshine again. Very strange weather.

Oops! I'm a bit late today . Time has just flown by. Met some friends for lunch today and had an antipasti with a bit of ciabatta bread followed by a Creme brûlée. Bg 5.4 :D:D:D. This kind of food agrees with me :). Nothing but a bowl of jelly for me tonight - all my carbs have been eaten already :(.

Pity we cant measure insulin at home, at the same time as we measure BG and BHOB.
I am advised by my d/nurse that I should not test my blood. So without testing I have to wait 3 months or more for any information. This is very frustrating. Am I improving or not. I wish to know.
