Carpeted Houses

4 kids and white carpet... SHUDDERING. I have carpets but that scenario is going to give me nightmares tonite. I have the opposite problem, dark wine colored carpet with two white dogs. The big one is a great pyrenees and is shedding at the moment. my living room is a plan gone horribly wrong.:arghh::wideyed:

Im a bit baffled, no matter what type of flooring you have you need to clean it every week, well I thought that was normal anyway.
Once a week? My flat is lucky if it gets cleaned once a month!

Oh no that would be a nightmare to try and clean up.
I have a dyson vacuum and it barely manages and we vacuum every day. Have to empty it about 4 times and its just one room and a hall. In my defense we got the carpet before we got the dogs.

Save time. Hoover the dog.

Seriously - there is a dyson hoover attachment that is actually designed to do that.
A friend of mine with a golden retriever got one. Says it changed her life. And the dog LOVES it :D

Yes I have the attachment. Great big huge 100 lb plus dog is terrified of the vacuum. The other one is like 10 lbs and couldn't care less. You have to actually bump her with the vacuum to get her to move. We used to have a chocolate lab/australian shepherd cross that loved being vacuumed.

I have 2 dogs and one wife, I like my carpets as the dogs don't slip when walking around on it and they can lay down anywhere in the cottage as its fully carpeted. (My dogs do not/ are not allowed by me to lay on hard surfaces) My wife vacuums the carpets every day and washes when she needs to.

Standing on hard surfaces can cause strain, varicose veins etc. Standing on laminate is harder than on solid wood
Carpet stops draughts so keeps house warm
My house is relatively new, came fully carpeted, tiles in kitchen and bathrooms.
The only place I have carpet now is on stairs
I bought an old school gym floor that is solid mahogany, I used it in hallways, I have oak flooring in living room and Norwegian pine in bathrooms and one bedroom, washed oak in other bedrooms. Kitchen is the only room that hasn't got wood.
I have a James (Henry's brother) vacuum cleaner, and a steam cleaner which I use Vacs pet solution in, so floors smell lemony.
I have 4 dogs (one is a foster) but as they are hairless they don't cause fluff.
I hate carpets, they take up so much energy keeping them clean. I do have some rugs, but ones that can be washed in machine.

Even when living in our caravan for a year my big goldie decided that one of the two 3' settees was hers! Hubby n I had to scrunch up on the other one-lol!!

There was another carpet issue. I inherited the living room carpet from the previous owners and by a slightly devious route I also inherited their cat. One day I noticed that he went through the living room high stepping and at speed and he also kept to the edges. I suspected fleas and I was right. Very expensive spray stuff from the vets had to be applied everywhere and spot on stuff for the cat. When that carpet went on the garden fire I felt like a mass murderer.

I find Dyson vacs to be absolute rubbish. Loads of hype little suck.
I would never let a dog onto any piece of furniture and I can't stand cats.
