Hello there, my name is Ronald Scott Fletcher, I'm 54 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes back in 1966. As odd as this may sound I'm lucky. For some bizarre reason I look much younger than my years, I'm in good physical condition and continue to do the same things as I did when I was in my 20s.

For the first 25 years of my life living with type 1, I took one shot of Lente Insulin (beef/pork) per day and maybe tested myself a couple of times a month. I was on no diet, smoked pot, drank a lot of alcohol and would only see a doctor if I injured myself and needed some medical treatment.

The last 25 years I started to take care of myself a little bit better as I became a father/parent to a couple of great kids and thought I wanted to be around to watch them grow up. Well they have grown up - one is in the Royal Canadian Navy and the other is in University.

I now take two different types of insulin, test myself on average 4 times per day and my diet has changed slightly - I stay away from overly processed foods including the evil fast food. I fast every weekend, (not true fasting - still have a small dinner time meal - low carbs with a little bit of protein) and continue to live with my type 1 very well.

I was a professional musician but in my mid 40s after every gig (2 in the morning - packing up my own gear etc) I wondered if all this stress and pain was worth it, I decided to leave that life behind. I'm not religious, was born in the USA to Canadian Parents and moved back to Canada just before I was diagnosed with type 1. I'm currently an IT specialist for the Government and quite frankly am very happy to be able to use the Canadian Healthcare system. It has it's faults but its advantages more than make up for it in my opinion.. My diabetes costs are full covered by my health plan so I do not have to pay for test strips or insulin - I'm very lucky otherwise life would be a little bit more stressful.

So far no complications.

I currently live on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Any questions I'd be happy to answer and that's about it.

I am currently reading The Blood Sugar Diet by Michael Moseley. About half way through at the moment but I think it might be worth a try. I am only about 7lbs over weight but still feel it could help. I am type 2 . I did lose 2 stone about 4 years ago and the half stone has crept back on so I feel it is time to lose it for good. Hi I'm Julie 57 and a newbie not officially diagnosed yet I await that surprise in the morning..but I know I have it..have all the symptoms and fasting bloods are 14.2mmol ...2hours after shoots up to 22.4...(I was given a monitor at my blood test) so I'm trying to prepare myself for the inevitable but really hope I don't need tablets..always struggle to swallow them
Well I'm now officially T2 started on Glicazide twice a day 4days ago -haven't noticed any change in BMs yet still high-12.5 fasting this morning 15-22 post meals and I have a banging headache (never suffer with them normally).
Trying to get my head round it all - DNS advised not to change diet just eat healthy meals which I try to do anyway-wondering how long it takes for Glicazide to kick in and whether I should reduce/stop carbs now or wait a while longer-I'm impatient and want control

Hi, I'm Sally I'm 57, and live in Cambridge, UK. I'm a nurse by background, lecturer and health coach. I'm still in love with my husband after 33 years and have a gorgeous dog (cross between Collie & French Shepperd). I'm not religious or wealthy but I'm happy and comfortable. I'd describe myself as passionate, enabling and authentic. I like that I'll do my best at whatever I take on and don't like the perfectionist streak in me. I'm pretty patient but injustice will make me angry. Apple but I'm not technical! I enjoy walking, Pilates and core fitness. Music taste is very eclectic, Elton John, Bruce Springstein, Eva Cassidy, George Shearing & Mozart! Irish Flag, London's my favourite city but only for short visits. NY is on my bucket list. I've visited Spain, Germany, France, Belgium. Austria, Switzerland, Italy, USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Not a camper. Used fake tan for the first time last year pleasantly surprised, streak free, no smell and didn't have to wear tights! Don't watch much TV, Bake off and was glued to the Olympics. Shawshank Redemption, Forest Gump, Silence of the Lambs, 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.

I'm Sally, 56 years old, Female, living in Ipswich, UK. Just diagnosed Type 2 last week after several years of telling myself i was fine, the thing that pisses me off the most is that this is the year that I lost 12 kg by changing my diet gradually and eating more healthily than I have for years ! My main symptom why I went to the GP was my eye sight suddenly went haywire and the optician told me not to drive until it improved, really shocking me - high blood pressure and now diabetes.

So I heard about Dr Moseley's book, read it and started the 8 week diet as it's not far off the Atkins which I did a few years ago which worked for me, I'm on day 6 and get weighed at the GP on Tuesday and I'm sure I have lost weight already, fingers crossed.

we have 2 Dogs, both rescue dogs - greyhound lurcher crosses. I use Microsoft. No sports but like walking. I have no tattoos, that would mean pain, have pierced ears which was bad enough.
Camping, ? usually ended in disaster or rain
Married for 37 years, used fake tan a few times on my milk bottle legs only
Have travelled to too many countries to mention, have lived abroad a lot, India for 3 years was most recent, returned to UK home in 2009 and now feel settled
