I am recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes based on an ac1 test score of 6.5. No meds were prescribed. I adopted a low carb, low caloric intake diet to manage blood glucose levels. I lost 15lbs in 6wks, going from 125lbs down to 115. Now I am too skinny and do not look well. My meter readings are always within normal range. I am afraid to try to regain some weight back to look better. I seem to have plateaued at 115lbs. Should I try to regain at least 5lbs?
When you say you've one too thin as that based on some form of BMI range or how you look and what others say?
I'm not a disciple to the concept of BMI, but it's a decent ruleof thumb in those who are not elite athlete or particularly muscular in nature.
Many people comment that other in their lives; whether family, friends or colleagues, when somoen loses weight. Sometimes it's because the weight loss is rapid, and in those circumstances many fin they lose from their faces, necks and other potentially non-flattering areas. Some can be a bit envious, ans some simply think it's odd, and a matter for concern where weightloss is rapid.
When I trimmed up from having luuuurve handles to being very slight the reactions were mixed, from those who have known me a long time being a bit concerned when "weight fell off me" (It did), to those who just thought I must be a really fit g*t, being so slight. I recall one night a chap repeatedly asking me (in a bar, so wobbly water had been in play for him) if I was an Ultra Marathon runners as I'm rather sinewy. MrB just spent the evening laughing at me swatting this Hawaiian off! He had a fixation with my calves. (No accounting for taste.)
So, I guess what I'm saying is looks can be so influential. Of course how you feel about yourself is very important. If you really dislike yourself that's not a healthy place to be. If you feel fine, but wish you had some more padding in x or y place, then take it steady and maybe just try to stabilise, as opposed to gain or lose.
Nobody knows where their optimal weight is, and certainly T2s or borderline T2s certainly don't want to be yo-yoing. Why not consider trying to stabilise your weight until your next set of bloods, then decide what to do.
