Hi @annette53 :)

Are you diet only? Have you altered your diet since your last HbA1C? Do you test your blood sugar yourself?

no i dont think i changed my diet. i was on diet only, but doctor has put me back on one metformin a day, no i dont check my own lvls myself

Many Type 2s find it helpful to test their blood sugar at home to see how they're doing and the effect various foods have on them - particularly carbs.

Let me tag some Type 2s for you while we wait for others to respond @andcol @AndBreathe @Bluetit1802

Hi

If you havent changed your diet then I am not surprised your HbA1c is the same. Additionally the HbA1c is like looking at the average BG levels over the last 3 months so even if you have made changes in the last few weeks it isnt going to help. T2 is not about weight no matter what the media likes to portray and there is plenty of evidence that the weight gain is due to insulin resistance. The increased weight then increases the insulin resistance and the issue gets worse.

Well done for the weight loss, it helps reduce the insulin resistance but that isnt immediate. If you wish to speed up any improvements you are likely to get then it is about changes to what you eat. That means reducing your carbohydrates (not just sugar) substantially ie, bread, pasta, rice, cakes, biscuits, fruit, low fat foods, potatoes etc

My blood glucose is the result of what I put in my mouth today, not the cumulative effect of what I've put in over the years. In other words, losing weight has zero impact on my A1c. Avoiding carbs on a daily basis has a huge and immediate impact.

My blood glucose went from the diabetic range to the normal range within 3 days of diagnosis - when I had virtually no weight loss - and has remained there ever since because I eat fewer than 20 carbs in any 2 hour period. (That's the quantity I determined that I could eat wthsout shoving my blood glucose out of the normal range, using my meter to test my reaction to each new food.

Hi,

I agree with @andcol entirely.

If you put glucose in your mouth, whether it be from refined sugary things or starchy carbs like bread, cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes and things made with flour. then that glucose will find its way to your blood stream.

The only way to learn which foods affect you the most (because we are all different) and how much of those foods you can eat safely is to buy a glucose meter and test strips and test the foods out for yourself. You do this by testing before you eat and again 2 hours after your first bite. The difference in levels is what you need to look for. If/when you buy a meter we will all help you use it to your best advantage.

Vastly reducing the carbs will lower your levels, and as a big bonus you should also lose weight.

Have a look at this thread

and have a look at the low carb plan on this website, which is helping many people

Please have a good read round, and ask any questions.

Yes, you have got the idea, but don't drink too much milk because the lactose is sugar! Full fat milk is better than skimmed, but we still need to be very careful with it. Good luck. :)

Milk for me (T1) over a day (just in my beverages) counts to 24 carbs.. So do allow for the carbs in beverages... These are just at home and normal instant drinks. Beware with the cappucino's or lattes from machines at home or in Costas or Starbucks etc..
