Another sunrise as I was going to work in Mt Isa in the 70's.

The pix of the sunrise was taken in my backyard as I was getting the car out to go to work. That is no where near Lawn Hill NP.
I have been all around that area, and it is well worth a visit, there is big fossil site on the Lawn Hill road near Riversleigh Cattle Station. You need permission to go in the area as it is protected and you have to be with a park ranger.

We had the first really misty morning of the season today.
The big sycamores at the front of the house are turning now; there's a drift of bright, copper-coloured leaves along the edges of the driveway and the holly berries in the garden are changing colour already. Summer's on the run, guys...

Yes, we do live on a lane. There are just fields and woods to the back and front of us, although there is a main A road at the far end of the lane. I love it - it's so peaceful. I lived in South London for 7 or 8 years, and this is the opposite end of the scale - pheasants, woodpeckers, squirrels, rabbits, bats, foxes, hedgehogs... Gorgeous!
I found these on the lawn this morning - they belonged to a Tawny Owl, according to Google...
I love the church bells, too. In fact, about 30 years ago - when I could climb all the steps up to the belltower - I used to ring those very bells, among others across the south-west! Nowadays the bellringers practice every Tuesday evening and I often open all the windows to listen to them, feeling nostalgic.

I would not use that toilet while all of the frogs are in it.
Green frogs are friendly and like to get water from any receptacle.

I found one of these in the garden this evening...
It's a Harlequin Ladybird - apparently the world's most invasive species! They arrived here in 2004 and have now colonised every corner of the UK. Scientists don't yet know if it will be damaging to our own, native species but they are asking for people to let them know of they see any.

Ladybirds are very beneficial to the garden, as their larvae eat vast quantities of soft-bodied pests, particularly aphids. A single ladybird can eat up to 5,000 aphids in its year-long lifetime! (The first photo of a spiny-looking bug is a native UK ladybird larva and the second is a Harlequin larva.)

It's nice to see some of my familiar winter visitors from the woodland and hedgerows being tempted back into the garden now with the onset of the cooler weather. I've seen three species around the feeders today which I've not seen since February - a small flock of goldfinches, a nuthatch, and a gorgeous primrose-yellow grey wagtail.
Although they've visited occasionally throughout the summer, the squirrels and long-tailed **** are back again on a daily basis now, too.
I'm surprised not to have seen the blackbirds feasting on the holly berries yet, but perhaps it's still a little early for that. The berries are looking lusciously red now, though.

Here are a few more pics - we were living almost right on the beach shown in the photos, just a field in between. The deer came out of the surrounding hills at night to graze on the grass and the stag bellowed until someone shone a torch at them, when they bounded off . It's pitch black up there at night so unfortunately we didn't manage to get a pic of the deer. Hope I haven't bored you with the holiday snaps

The deer came out of the surrounding hills at night to graze on the grass and the stag bellowed until someone shone a torch at them, when they bounded off . It's pitch black up there at night so unfortunately we didn't manage to get a pic of the deer. Hope I haven't bored you with the holiday snaps
