American healthcare vs U.K. Healthcare

It is an awful system of healthcare in the US. If one cannot afford insurance and is not poor enough to get basic treatment free, selling one's house my be the only option to pay the megga bucks for health care. I knew one person who was in agony from post operative adhesions and couldn't pay for corrective surgery and had no insurance. D.
 
The so called free health care is paid by someone.
In the US you can get insurance but you pay for it. My son went to university in the US and it cost $900.00 for insurance. The problem is that many in the US don't buy insurance but no one is refused care.
The best doctors go to the US because of the financial rewards.
 
If care is available to all in the USA then why is an organisation like Remote Area Medical needed.
for instance dental and vision free care for the poor is not available for adults in the USA

Well, fair enough dear chap- but I would say that, based on your taxable income, I would have to put you in the "rich" column... Things do look a tad different from my end of the scale. In the US, I'd likely be dead or blind by now, neither of which strike me as overly fair.

I'll keep the NHS, thanks.
 
I knew a couple who's son had been born with a hare lip, but he'd been operated on soon after birth and several more times as he grew, and he had a normal voice and teeth, there was a scar on his lip, but it could have been from a childhood fall, it was just a white line. His mother's sister had married his father's brother, after meeting at the wedding, they went to live in America and they also had a son with a hare lip - but obviously did not have the money or insurance to have it treated until he was older - his voice was very nasal, his upper jaw was divided and there was a very obvious deformity of his upper lip. The two young men were very alike, so it was quite a shock to see how poor the outcome was for one of them. The UK mum said afterwards that her sister was always going on about their house, cars and holidays, but she'd only got to look at her boy to know that she was far better off.
 
@JohnEGreen Americans prefer you pay for your own health care rather than someone else pays for your health care. They clearly reject Obama care and Sanderson's Socialism . There is very good reasons you National Healthcare system is cash strapped and the taxpayers are over taxed
 
Not all Americans prefer that or can afford that here you can get dental care and vision care without a charity having to turn up in your town with a clinic in a truck.

Why do you think the doctors that go to the States for the higher financial rewards are the best ones? That's rubbish! They are simply doctors who put financial reward first. They could be good, bad or indifferent doctors, not necessarily the best ones.
 
I would gladly pay more tax to see our health service in the UK in better condition.
I find it bizarre that in the States they say so much about Christianity but many begrudge their fellow man who is poor their tax monies for needed health care.

@Bluetit1802 is your? system cash strapped ? The US system isn't.
They have the latest best equipment.
Several Doctors I know left to go to the US and they all rave about the system. My Dermatologist left because my govt was clawing back over 50k that he earned. The Americans actually recruit doctors to go to the US.
The top heart surgeon also left to go there

If you look at gastroparesis groups on facebook you will see many US Citizens that are refused care. They have to have jpeg tubes, feeds etc and there are offen cases where people are absolutely desperate. The gastro and intestinal failure site in UK which inslydesany diabetics has nobody saying they have been refused care. Doesn't matter whether in UK or US many peoplebwith this disease are unhappy at the lack of knowledge from hospitals. There are many diabetics that fall in to these groups.
 
@donnellysdogs one thing I have learned over the years is that you'll always find unhappy people no matter what it is about.
My daughter in law is Surgical Assistant in a major Boston Hospital and she swears by the American system and has told me they never refuse treatment to anyone regardless of ability to pay.
 
Where DO you come up with these sweeping statements Tom? They really are comical, especially as you have absolutely no independent data to back any of it up! The best doctors go to the US? Proof if you please? I'm sure they have some **** fine doctors/surgeons but no better than our own..
