Liam The above just hit a cord with me and makes so much sense. I've been trying to tackle this that and the other conditions but you're absolutely right ... from now on diabetes takes priority and I think the rest will get fixed too!
I agree too.
I know I in the past suggested pain relief first but even I'm wondering whether diabetes shouldnt be the 1st priority then maybe in less pain? Although the more low carb I go the more back pain.
They say your body shape changes on lchf, I agree. I have a bigger tummy as fat is slow to digest. Hence more back pain for me.
I may try low fat diet again to see if tummy goes down.

mean people, corrupt politicians, poverty, happy pharmaceutical ads;
Erin, in essence, to put it as simply as I can, Metformin and Gliclazide are very, very different. Put simply, Metformin helps you body reduce any insulin resistance and many people also find their appetite is reduced. The result of those two things can mean it is easier to lose spare poundage the individual may be carrying.

The impacts of Metformin build up in the system over a period of time, rather than on a dose by does basis.

Gliclazide, on the other hand, basically, encourages your pancreas to secrete more insulin, in order to cope better with whatever you eat and drink. By the addition of extra insulin to your system, if effectively drives blood sugars down (potentially to hypo levels).

Taking all your Gliclazide tablets would have most impact for the while after you have taken the medication, so spreading them out would logically would be gentler on your system, and decrease the chances of having a hypo. I essence you are taking 3 gentler prompts as day to your pancreas to produce more insulin. Taking them all at the same time is a big hit all at once.

Some people find they gain weight on Gliclazide, but that is often where they have quite a bit of insulin resistance. Where insulin resistance is quite marked, the adding more insulin will encourage body fat storage.

AndBreathe, I agree with your discretion between Metformin and Gliclazide. Metformin is an old anti-diabetic drug, unfortunately it is not as strong, nor do I think it has an effect on the pancreas, whereas the sulphonyurea were designed with the dangerous side effect of hypos. It's true that spreading may have changed the metabolism. I suspect that with every year there is insulance resistance. I will just keep going now regardless of gain weight. At least metformin makes you lose weight.

Thanks for your post.

GP agreed codeine not helping my big tummy and putting more pressure on my backpain. Even metformin couldnt fix the codeine constipation. Codeine only helping when at rest. Walking has been hell.
I won't let much stop me. Even stopping every 5mins wasn't helping in the end.
I hope tramadol gives me some relief, I look shattered. In too much pain to sleep, on occasion.
Resting today. Shopping needs doing tomorrow. God help me!

I have Asperger Syndrome which is an autism spectrum condition and a full diagnosis of Adult ADHD which are characterised by impairments in social communication, social interaction and social imagination. I also have a rigid and somewhat unpredictable routine. I also experience obsessive rituals, some a bit overwhelming. But I have a talent in articulate creative writing skills and possess a photographic rote memory. I have sensory sensitivity and get upset by loud noises, bright colours or lights, and notice the texture and consistency of certain foods more making my dietary choices extremely limited or restricted to certain food components. I dislike conflict and lies. The Adult ADHD also makes me very moody and cross.
Hi to all my friends on the www.diabetes.co.uk type 2 life forum and a very good morning to you all from PC No 1 at Tate South Lambeth Public Library, from me, Johnny,

I had a good night's sleep last night after late last night eating a lamb doner kebab, strips of skewered minced lamb in a pitta pocket with salad and garlic sauce treated for me by my good friend Lee Collingwood, his way of saying thank you to him for my being there for him, letting him do his laundry in my flat, and letting him have a hot bath in my flat as well as making sure he always has something to eat. I enjoyed the doner kebab very much. It's my favourite take away food product.

I also would love to share with you, my good friends, that I am on my smoking cessation programme with the Lambeth Stop Smoking Service which is endorsed by NHS Smokefree. I last had a roll up, hence adiosing them, before 2:25 post meridian. If I worked it out correctly, I believe I'm just over 44 hours quit. By 2:25 post meridian, today, Thursday 9th February, 2017, Anno Domini, I shall be 48 hours, or 2 days, abstinent from tobacco products, the time when most smoking cessation specialist theorise that the carbon monoxide, the harmful substance found in smoke, is eradicated from the body. I don't miss roll ups one bit.

My blood glucose reading this morning was 6.4 millimoles per litre.

Lots of love to all my friends and special love and hugs going out to @debrasue for a speedy recovery from her unpleasant illness.

From,

Johnny Baker.

Hi to all my lovely, benevolent friends on the www.diabetes.co.uk type 2 life forum and a very good morning to you from me, Johnny, on PC No 2 at Tate South Lambeth Public Library in the vicinity of where I live,

I had a very good sleep last night, very rested and wonderful but a bit restless around about 1-2 ante meridian. My fasting blood glucose reading before my breakfast was 4.9 millimoles per litre then I had my breakfast of porridge made with 1 small cup of porridge oats, 1/2 cup of Lacto-Free semi-skimmed milk and 1/2 cup of water and cooked it on full power in my 800 watt microwave oven for 3 minutes. It was wonderful and very filling. A little bit later I took my "after breakfast" blood glucose reading which was 4.2 Millimoles Per Litre, a bit low, so for my peace of mind I attempted to try to prevent it from becoming a hypo and made a cup of sweet tea with 2 Sainsbury's Basics tea bags, 1 x 5 ml spoonful of granulated sugar and a splash of Lacto-Free semi-skimmed milk.

I'm not sure if this was very wise, because my diabetic nurse specialist at the diabetes community clinic advised that when I'm concerned about hypo's, I should eat a complex carbohydrate because it has less ill health implications and keeps the blood glucose up for longer but at a reasonable level.

I am now over 68 hours abstinent from any tobacco product and am getting on very well with my Smoking Quit. Sure, I've had some craves but the nicotine patch I wear daily really helps and I counteract each crave with either a mug of tea with lacto-free milk and sweeteners or a glass of water.

Have a lovely day, my friends. I hope you're feeling better, my good friend @debrasue and are on the road to recovery. I lit a candle for you last night and to remind me of what Jesus did for me upon the cross of Calvary in 33 AD.

Love and hugs

Poor Vicky, I really feel for you being in so much pain.

Why don't you get an online shopping delivery from Tesco or whatever? (I'm assuming by 'shopping' you mean groceries) They deliver it into your kitchen, so all you have to do is put it away and you can do that at your leisure. You can book an order up to 3 weeks in advance and continue to add or remove items from the basket until 11:46pm the night before your delivery is due, without any penalty. Your credit card doesn't get charged until the goods have gone through the checkout.

I've been doing it for about 5 years now and it's an absolute godsend. During that 5 years I have only been unhappy with an item they chose on two occasions, and each time they've taken the item back and refunded me. I've even been given a free bottle of wine twice, simply for being a regular customer! (Apparently drivers have the option to do this at their discretion.)

This period of your life is all about making things as easy as possible for yourself.

Big hugs xx

Hey, Johnny! Thank you so much for thinking of me, and for lighting the candle. That really is a very kind thing to do and I certainly appreciate it. I am feeling a bit better now, thank you, after 6 days of double antibiotics, and I'm sure I'll continue to improve. They told me at the hospital that it could take 6-8 weeks before I am totally well, so I guess I just have to try and do what I'm told and be patient (neither of which is easy for me to do!). :)

I'm delighted to hear your news about quitting smoking. That's excellent news - well done, you! And you've been getting some excellent BG readings lately too. You have learned so much since joining this forum and we are all very proud of you.

I'm glad that Lee appreciates what you do for him; he seems a good friend. (And I could almost taste that kebab! :))

Sending big hugs for your continued success.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through so much pain, I haven't read the previous posts yet as to whats happened to cause this.
A remedy for constipation that always works for me is good ole prune juice. I know we dont usually drink juice due to its high sugar content but just 1/2 a small glass works a treat. Fybogel sachet mixed in a glass of water also helps, I've been prescribed these by the doctors to drink daily to prevent getting constipated, this can be brought over the counter too.

I agree with @debrasue about the online shopping, I do the same, it saves so much time and backache.

Hope you feel better real soon x

WARNING: If I'm boring you don't read any further but I thought I'd update some people I follow without numerous pms.

I've slept a lot but I'm in agony again after only using 1 tablet this afternoon. I'll use 2 tablets at 10pm and 2 every 6hrs. I'm struggling now til 10pm. :(
Distractions needed til then. I'm dozy anyway so might go back to bed. We'll see!

Looks like I am going to reduce my Insulin even more today? (Not a bad thing at all) my blood sugar before bed was 6.5 then decided to watch a film, so went to bed at 2.30am - then woke up feeling hungry at 4.25am, so decided to test and got a lovely 5.0 :singing: - then ate a cheese sandwich.
Going to try 18 units of Insulin on a morning and 18 units at 6pm = which will be 36 units each day. (Still take 1000mg in the morning and 1000mg at 6pm of Standard Metformin and 5mg Dapagliflozin also at 6pm)

Morning Liam, yes thank you for finding the thread, I had a very quick read at the posts but not had chance to watch the videos or read the links yet, hopefully will do that this weekend. :)

How are you?

That's great blood glucose readings you're getting and that you're able to reduce your insulin. I think we're both on humulin m3?

Hello @Rose88 That's good you found it of interest :). @Granny_grump_ Well Done on getting the icon sorted :).
You will have found that everybody is willing to help and support each other on here. Just ask no matter how daft you might think a question is.

Hi @Rose88 :) - I am using Humulin i. I have reduced it so far by 10 units in a period of 12 days. GP put me back on the Dapagliflozin after it got stopped for 10 months and he said to reduce the Insulin by 2 units every few days. I attempted to send you private message - but no luck.
Just to say that I brought our chatter over to this thread, because from time to time the Moderators remind us that the Fasting Threads are to be kept to posting our fasting results and chat related to fastings.

Morning how are you feeling?
I didn't go back to bed. I rode it. At 10pm I took 2x50mg and went to bed. Slept til 3.30am but woke in pain. Waited til 4am and took 2 tablets and slept til 8.40am. Just waiting til 10am in pain to take them again.
On taking them they knock me out for an hour and a half then I can do something painfree til they wear off at 3pmish. I'm determined to wait 6hrs inbetween so I can have a good night sleep. Also avoiding overdose. In pain before taking them. I might tweek at a later date but under supervision.
At least I'll be able to do something rather than nothing.
Looking forward to a little walk out today hopefully without pain. Just to a local shop. Fingers crossed.
