Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

Chicken Garam Masala went down a treat with some Sukhi Gobi (stir fried cauli with seeds and Garam masala - added some broccoli that needed using up.)

Hubby licked the bowl so I know it was a hit!

No sour cream in the cupboard, so the lasagne will have to wait. We had all the ingredients, minus the 'pasta' and with a huge green salad.

Some of my divine pomegranate molasses (bad B!) may have accidentally drizzled over my salad :wacky:

:D

Our local Tescos stocks (stocked?) the carrot cake one for a while.
Got a tub.
Very disappointed. Not something i would buy again.

But i still want to try the other flavours... :)

Our local Holland & Barrett is quoted as a stockists. May wander in and have a look. The carrot cake was one I fancied too

Had a bit of a temperature last night and once again feel fine now. No sore throat for the first time in ages (touch wood). Bed last night on 9.5 FBG 8.9 and pre breakfast 9.5 again. I daresay it will eventually drop in the evening/mornings once this weird bug departs. Had breakfast so it will start to drop.
Going out tonight so I don't know what I will be eating. At the local college they have a training kitchen/restaurant for the hospitality and catering students. The hospitality students run the bar and the restaurant. On a Thursday it is the 3rd year catering students who present a Masterchef Menu. You start with canapes, choice of about 4 starters, then 4 mains, a mini pre dessert, choice of desserts which unfortunately are all amazing then coffee or tea with homemade tablet, chocolates and petite four. All for a stunning £10 per head. They make mistakes and service can be slow but you accept that because they are learning. They don't even charge over the top for drinks. It's an early night. Everyone has to be there for 6.15pm and it usually ends at 9.30. I remember once my brother asked for a port with his coffee and the girl brought it in a highball glass with ice. Brother pointed out nicely that you don't serve port on ice and she wanted to take it away and change it. 'No no ' I'll just fish it out with a spoon, I only mentioned it so you know next time. No way he was parting with a half pint of port! There are a few things I'll have to pass on but usually you can minimise the carbs. They make all their own bread too - that will be difficult.

@maglil55 That sounds like a lovely dinner and I hope you feel well enough to enjoy it. :)

Nope, never heard of Perfect World but then me and the ice cream cabinet at supermarkets are relative strangers. I've never been a great ice cream lover unless it's a blazing hot summer day (even when I was little).

@Brunneria What has your BG been like after your Diet Doctor holiday) :)

I have just been showing my records to an acquaintance who was recently diagnosed with T2 (you might remember I mentioned her, she was the woman who was really upset at the way she was diagnosed). She took seconds to work out what I haven't noticed before, that my best overall GB is on the occasions - usually weekends - that I eat a big breakfast then skip lunch and have a normal LC evening meal. She's right but I can't work out why - any ideas?

I have to eat breakfast too. Lunch I can skip no problem but I need breakfast.

Well, my Libre sensor died last Friday, so I am now in a testing lull.

But I know my numbers have been fine, just a few more little bumps (not spikes) due to a couple of squares of 70% choc.
I would guesstimate that my carbs have been 20-25g a day, rather than 10-15g on DD, so no worries there. :)

Tried to order PErfect World icecream from Tescos again (choc chip and caramel pecan) but they were out of stock.

Today am back on DD. And have reached the point when I am customising their menus. Have ordered larger quantities for just 3 different meals this week, so will have several spare portions when I cook (feta chicken, aubergine pizza puree, broccoli and baked fish), because Mr B is on late shifts this week, and his timings are all over the place. So the microwave is our friend. ;)

@Chook I would hazard a guess that your body needs a hefty dose of food to cut through your morning rise. I just need a coffee with cream, but you clearly need more. Is it fat or protein that works best?

I can miss brekky, and maybe miss lunch, but I turn into a triple headed gorgon is someone says skip supper.

Weird how differently our bodies work...

I quite like fasting - but not eating doesn't have the same effect it used to. When I was regularly fasting before (about 15 months ago) it reduced my FBG to the low 5s and the weight fell off me. It definitely doesn't do either of those any more. Maybe you only get the benefits the first time you do it.

What's happening now is I get the before waking early morning liver dump which can carry on increasing to late morning and my BG is very slow to come down if I fast, sticking up above 6 until early afternoon then slowly drifting down to low 5s by dinner.

But, if I eat a fairly large very low carb breakfast, two hours later my BG is the same or slightly lower - and then drops to the low 5s by about lunchtime and then slowly drifts down to mid to high 4s until dinner. Then, after a very low carb dinner, it only goes up to about 5.6 and slowly drops to 4.8-5.2 before bed.

If I have all three meals I get the same or slightly lower reading after LCHF breakfast then a rise due to lunch which only goes down to about 6 just before dinner and two hours after dinner its about 7.0-7.2. By the time I go to bed it's about 6.5-6.7, which I don't like.

Like I said, this has just been pointed out to me so I don't know why it's like this but I'd like to know what you think.

It's useful knowing someone who used to teach maths. :)

Oh no!!!!! I definitively can't miss dinner. I know it's psychological though because on the two occasions I had to miss it (due to having an operation the next morning) I didn't actually die from skipping it. I'd just never do it by choice.

I don't know if it's the fat or the protein. I do know that double cream in my coffee or a few nuts doesn't stop the DP so I think it must be the protein. But I also know that three scrambled eggs doesn't stop it either.

Well I had a wonderful meal in the training kitchen tonight. Our drink was more than the food and I could not believe how low carb friendly the menu was. I'll bless you with the full menu tomorrow but that was the best yet.

Got the menu so will bless you with it now. Just want to point out the portions are small so I was not being a total pig!
The amuse Bouche you got a bite size piece of rare beef with the thinnest crisp I have ever seen. The cottage cheese one was delicious too. From the starters I had the sole. Could not believe it when I saw cauliflower couscous with minted walnut. The mint was very subtle. Main I had the venison with celeriac. I missed talking about the soup. It was about 2 tablespoons in a glass and it was so delicious I can still taste it. Dessert I had the pineapple with the blood orange sorbet. I had one chocolate with coffee - it was dark chocolate filled with Bailey's - £10 ? Can't argue with that.

@maglil55. I am really jealous - that looks very yummy. Where I went this evening there was food, too - sort of. It was basically an Iceland beige buffet special and included soggy quiche, sausage rolls, cheapest white bread sandwiches, breadcrumbed chicken drumsticks. The only bit of colour was the HUGE platter of fondant fancies. Drinks were luke warm cheap white wine or orange juice. I had no trouble at all in avoiding the buffet after the first glance.

Anyone want a dog?

Have you seen the Flash commercial with the mucky white Labradoodle? Well, the New Dog did exactly the same thing here this morning, except in the kitchen, lounge and hall. :(
