Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

I say again , has it given in? Bed 5.2 FBG 5.8 Pre breakfast 6.1!!
I actually dropped to 4.8 yesterday which made me a little nervous. I know it shouldn't but I'm not used to being that low. Didn't feel unwell or anything - just surprised. Still munching on my boiled egg supply for a quick breakfast.

Wow!!!!! Look at THOSE numbers!! Well done. :clown::woot:

You shouldn't be feeling ill while you are in the high 4s - thats a perfectly normal number for someone who has slowly reduced their BG over a long period. If you'd come down from a very high number to the high 4s you might have felt a bit off. I don't feel weird now even at 3.6 (I haven't been lower recently).

As I said on the what did we eat thread, I will be fasting on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a change in Mr C's hours this week - there's no way I could fast when he's at home and he will be home for dinner on Thursday and Friday. Funny.... he was fine with me doing the 5:2 IF where I would fast for about 24 hours - but doesn't much like the idea of me fasting for 62 hours even though I keep a note of my BG on a chart which is on the side in the kitchen so he can see they don't go too low. Men!

Haha! Its cos they love us.

And because they are... (picking words carefully) a little concerned that our blood glucose may dip too low and we turn into axe wielding Valkyries fueled by Hypo Rage. At least that is the concern in this house.

I don't get hypo rage - I get hypo panic attack blended with hypo total inability to think straight apart from (what I consider to be) a primal desire to eat, eat, EAT.

I once had a hypo in a swimming pool (while swimming) and next thing I remember was finding myself dripping wet (still in cozzie) in the foyer next to a vending machine with a crowd of people looking at me because I was shovelling down chocolate covered flapjack like a woman possessed. Actually, if anyone had tried to stop me I think i would probably have turned into an axe wielding valkyrie. The thing was I wasn't diagnosed at the time so didn't have a clue what was going on.

I'm a bit higher today but hardly surprising bed 6.9 FBG 7.1 Pre breakfast 7.7 so still not bad. No weight loss though but I ' d rather my BG stabilised. I have a day of rest too.

Ah ha!!! I now know the reason why my BG has been a bit high - I kept myself awake last night by cough, cough, coughing. I got through about two pints of water trying to shut it up. It wasn't until this morning that Mr C said that I've been getting worse with it over the last few nights. I've got chest (lung) pain this morning - its okay when I'm not breathing but each breathe lets me know where my lungs are - if you know what I mean.

Now I'm aware of it I'll keep an eye on it because a few years ago I had a pleural effusion which started off with a cough and was in hospital for a couple of weeks with it - and they did say it might come back. Fingers crossed it doesn't. :( The strange thing is that I'm okay (no cough at all) during the day - which is a good sign.

FBG this morning was 7.5 - I didn't eat anything after my roast chicken dinner yesterday at 5pm so I'm fairly sure its the cough thats pushing it up.

We've got a bit of a weird week this week with hubby manning a polling station all day on Thurs and me counting the votes all Thursday night and also Friday afternoon so sticking with tried and tested Fathead pizza (Mon and cold on Weds ) and Indian Crackslaw on Tuesday night.

Me and my big mouth. :( I've been coughing all day (dry cough) so it's not a big surprise that my BG has been on the high side (for me). I'll give it a few days and if it doesn't settle I suppose I'll have to go see my GP. He'll probably blame it on VLC.

Hopefully fasting for the next couple of days will help too. I'm actually quite looking forward to it.

I got a lot of garden stuff done today. We put lots of plants out and the hanging baskets planted to then watched in horror as Jack jumped up on the main raised flower bed and started digging them up despite all the canes and netting we had just used to make a barrier to stop him. I am fairly sure he has the doggy version of ADHD.

Hope you get better soon Chook. Hubby's cold didn't develop but he's had a seriously bad cough for 2 weeks now. Fine during the day but really bad first thing and at night. I was getting close to dragging him to the doctor. Keep a close eye on it.

How are you this morning @Chook?

A lot better - still coughing - but not feeling as sorry for myself as I did yesterday.

My BG is still on the high side (for me) but I'm fasting today so hopefully that should go down although it didn't look particularly good late morning as it had risen steadily but slowly since FBG test.

Its weird not needing to plan what to eat. Twice now I've thought 'have I sorted out something for dinner' then remembered that I don't need to. Mr C thinks I'm nuts doing fasting he keeps reminding me how much my BG has come down since two years ago (before low carbing) when, on several occasions it was too high for my meter to give me a reading - just read as 'Hi' - and I thought there was something wrong with it rather than thinking there might be something wrong with me. :banghead::wideyed::wacky:

Good morning! This fast is definitely more difficult than last week's - I think its due to not being at my best with this cough.

It didn't keep me awake but I dreamed of food all night long. :)

I had a really bad night. Nervous system was acting up and legs were driving me to distraction. It was 3am before I got to sleep and I had to take a painkiller. About the only thing that was OK was my BG as I went to bed on 6.4 FBG was 5.4 would you believe and pre breakfast 6.2.
Nervous system seems to have settled this morning. It is horrible when it happens. Starts with the legs. Muscles get tighter and tighter and it creeps upwards until it affects my abdominal area, then my breathing, arms get painful and you start getting numb areas. First time it happened I got really panicky as you think you are having a heart attack but even now it is still scary.
Had to get No 2 to pre school while son took No 1 to school. Went back for son as he is getting a minor op at a community hospital. Just a local so he shouldn't take long. Then I have to get back, he has to pick up some items for DIL and I have to get No 2 from pre school by 11.30 (he is always with me for lunch on a Wednesday). Get No 1 from school at 2.45pm and both are having dinner at ours before I drop hubby and brother at pub and both boys home at 5.30pm. I may just go to bed after that! At least No 2 is at pre school all day tomorrow, No 1 has after school club and hubby is at a funeral so no rushing about tomorrow.

OMG - that nervous system problem sounds really awful. Have you tried Amitriptyline? I have to take it every night before bed so the arthritis doesn't keep me awake. I was surprised when it worked but I've learned I have to take it at least two hours before going to bed so I don't get a hangover effect the next morning.

How would your family cope without you?? You must be the best ever Mother / Mother in Law. My Mum babysat my daughter exactly once (and even that traumatised her) let alone day in and day out like you do. I hope they all really appreciate you. x

Its a boring day here today. I'm waiting in to tell some decorators how my neighbour wants her lounge done and while waiting I'm listing a load of clothes on eBay for a friend.

The fasting isn't going well - I keep feeling a bit nauseous and light headed with it - so I might have to eat sooner than tomorrow morning. My BG seems to have got stuck at 6.2. It was 6.2 at early afternoon yesterday and has been 6.2 ever since. It should be less by now (on this fast) so I think this cough might be a chest infection pushing it up. :(

@maglil55 - makes me exhausted just reading about your day!

@Chook - amitryptaline makes my sugars run about 1- 1.5 higher for about three days so I take it sparingly - I rely on co-codamol to keep me knocked out overnight.

I'm waiting for the postie to deliver my next lot of work papers so working on my sermon for Sunday in the meantime

I've never factored in the amitryptaline with regard to BG (I'll be curious now) one day I'll try a few nights without it - maybe in the middle of the summer when my arthritis isn't so bad :)

Co-codamol (and anything else with codeine) has a really awful affect on me. At the beginning of this arthritis problem I was prescribed Tramadol which also contains codeine which did wonders for the pain but I used to 'lose' whole days on it or spend my day having strange and very vivid hallucinations - and I'm now told I'm not to have Tramadol any more so I was prescribed co-codamol which had exactly the same effect. :(

It was suggested at one point but having had a look at the side effects and the potential reaction with everything else I take I reckoned it was not for me. DIL took it for a while and she reacted quite badly too it. It is easier just to work on the muscle to loosen them.
Will be leaving shortly to pick up No1. No 2 is chillaxing with Papa watching some ghastly cartoon series. Hubby got their sausages all casseroled while I was out so everything is ready just to reheat. They tend to eat about 4pm on school days.
I suspect the cough is causing your issues. For me a low 6 is pretty normal although I would be pretty narked being there after an almost 2 day fast. I thought that was odd for me this morning to drop into a FBG in the 5's but never look a gift horse and all that
My Fitness Pal is a bit annoying this week as I have been under 1000 calories this week but as a user you will know it doesn't like that so I am having to insert things I'm not having to get it to complete. I wish they would recognise we're not all anorexic cases and some of us have a genuine for being low some days.

I only noticed the amitryptaline effect as I take it very sparingly due to the dreadful hangover effect I get with it.

Tramadol is a nightmare but I can cope with co-codamol

We ought to rename this thread to 'Diet Doctor and chat!'

I can't touch any of those. Tramadol and co-codamel both leave me feeling as if I'm having a heart attack.
