Hi all, well it’s now been 3 months since my diagnosis with a hba1c of 97, I’ve just had my latest result and its come down to 53.. I’m a little bit disappointed as I would have liked it to be a bit lower but I’ve nearly halved it so I must be doing something right.. I’m determined to get it down in to the 40’s over the next 3 months so I just need to stick with it I guess.. all of the great advice on this site has helped me out lots..
Cheers

That is a smashing improvement, well done. You are getting something right so keep doing what you are doing and keep testing.
To halve your numbers in this short a space of time deserves a pat on the back, don't be disappointed, looks like you'll reach your target easily next time.

Well done Neil !
Unless changes you've made have been for the whole three months, what you're doing now should be reflected in a lower HbA1c next time.
If you're testing you should have a good idea about your control.
Onwards and downwards !
Geoff

Well done @NeilSC
Great improvement and as HbA1c is based over about 3 months it's very likely your next one will be a lot better. I started at 95 and down to 50 in 3 months but my next one was 33. Hopefully yours will be similar.

No need to feel in the least bit disappointed - to get so far in three months is great - it is almost an identical drop to what I managed, and at 6 months I was down to 41, and that was easing up a little as well, as my glucose levels improved even as I added in a bit more salad and veges and some berries and cream - hopefully it was my metabolism correcting itself.
Just watch your meter and - with any luck, if you eat the same you'll see the numbers going down little by little - every 0.1 down shows that things are changing in how you can cope with carbs, so I hope that you can get that to happen for you.
Normality beckons. It was rather a shock to see it, but it could be possible.
I was diagnosed over a year ago now, and it would be really boring if not for the forum. There is even some danger of being a bit smug about it all.

Very similar trajectory to mine, if you keep up the diet it will come!. The way to think about this is that one the way up as you were eating too many carbs, your blood glucose went a tiny bit higher every day and so did your insulin levels as you could not quite recover from what you were eating. Now things are going in the opposite direction. It probably took you 20 years to get to the peak overall which was when you could no longer make enough insulin to get your blood glucose down. Now you are reversing the process and gradually little by little you are reducing your base levels of both glucose and insulin. In only three months you have got a long was back down that 20 year track. Its no surprise that your body can't do the whole thing at once!

You are well on the way to being sorted ! so congratulations !

Thanks for all the great replies, hopefully I’ll reach my target over the next few months, I suspect the hard work will be maintaining it though..
