So, how many carbs on average do you have each day? I think the RDA for those without diabetes is around 260g?
And if you went over YOUR limit would you start feel differently, side-effects, symptoms etc?

We have kept to between 20 and 30 grams per day for over 4 years. James never goes over this, his eyesight is too important to him, but I indulge on holidays from time to time, but then I am not diabetic. However, I do notice that I tend to feel tired and sometimes a bit bloated if I have tucked into a good pudding. I assume I am just not used to it and don't have a quantity of insulin ready to go, so my sugars probably go up for a period.

I was told on diagnosis that I must have been Diabetic for a long time and yet I had no symtoms relating to a high carb diet. This is very common.

Hi @winglets

About 200 - 240. I don't really have a limit, i just match carbs to insulin. Yes i feel differently if my bs rises and would take more insulin.

No idea how many I eat but probably more than some here because a couple of times a week. I do have a small slice of wholemeal bread and some very small new potatoes. I was never a big starchy carb eater before diabetes very low sweet tooth never ate rice or pasta didn't like it moderate bread and potatoes and I did not eat red meat so my diet has not changed very much

I'll not be much short of 180g, as in porridge, rice & wholemeal bread, trying to maintain 80kg with a BMI of 25, only complex carbs tho, and as I mentioned somewhere else my basmati rice is washed, rinsed, cooled & reheated.

160/180g daily.

200g daily if I'm training with heavy weights. ( I only do this maybe twice a year for 6/8 weeks at a time )

80-120g a day. On the rare occasion when i go over the limit and get a high-for-me blood result, i get sleepy and my brain wants to shut down.

The heavy weights? Is that that 'stronglifts 5x5 could I ask?

Everyones different. When I first got on this forum I was surprised I eat a lot more carbs, but thats how I feel comfortable. I used to feel dead all day when I was on a very low carb diet.

I have 90gr a day with 6U bolus before meals. This is when I do no exercise. The days I exercise it can be up to 150gr.

Just for more views: my grandma has around 40gr carbs a day, shes t2.

Hi @kev-w . It has been down the years. I also will just vary it up a bit for 6/8 weeks, usually heavy compounds, a lot like 5x5's
5x5 is a great workout routine for a set period of time, but I have to admit by week 6 I start to want to change.

So your diabetes isn't that bad then if you can tolerate what is classed as an (almost) average carb intake for a non-diabetic?

Type 1 people can cover carbs with insulin. I still like to moderate my carb intakes, but its possible to match insulin to carbs. If u r only interested in type 2s maybe u can ask a mod to move ur thread.

You might find that you get different responses from people with different types of diabetes? What are you looking to find out?
