Hi

I thought of sharing something with you all. I found a breakfast cereal which claims to reduce the Blood cholesterol and sugar. But it has 46.8 carbs in 100g.

This is available in Hollands & Barrat . I bought them and eating for past two days.

Here is the link:

Please let me know if anyone has tried and found good.

Regards

Poor grammar, bullying and drunks.
At almost half carbs, I would not consider buying it. Nothing they could put into the remaining ingredients could possibly counteract the the effects of those kind of carb levels.

When you are trying something new.. and especially something with so many carbs I would strongly recommend testing each time you eat it. I hope you aren't too shocked by the probable rise (which is even mentioned on the front of the pack!).

Each serving has about 12 carbs, plus the yoghurt one chooses to eat with it, as recommended on the label.

However, that portion size doesnt sound like it would fill someone up. I am very wary of 'special' food, very expensive foods, for specific conditions.

its just: 60% Oat Bran, (Contains Gluten), Cornmeal, Fructose with the fructose coming from apple.

It doesnt say how it differs from ordinary porridge with apple, and the cornmeal would give me a bad stomach ache.

I cant find any actual science behind this, despite the blurb about scientific evidence. I look with interest to the sugar level results. Oats are one of the things i cannot eat without a big spike, not even a very small portion : (

I didn't get time to measure in past two days. But I m measuring today. My BG before breakfast was 6 and now waiting to measure after two hours. I will post it here at 10:30am.

The results are now surprising me lot.

These are the foods I have eaten in breakfast
1) Beatvivo cereal one sachet with yoghurt + 20 grams pumpkin seeds + 10gram flaxseeds + few raspberries
2) 25 grams of sesame seeds
3) one whole egg omelette

Before breakfast my result was 6. I measured just after one hour it is 6.6.

Usually after one hour of breakfast my results after 2 hours stay at 7. But now after one hour it is 6.6. I will measure 2 hours after breakfast, hopefully it will be lower.

But I don't understand how with 46.8g carbs in 100g will have such wonderful results after one hour. Possibly it may rise after 2 hours, but don't know yet.

Will again post results after two hours.

But one thing sure, I don't feel hungry and won't feel hungry upto next few hours.

Good Lord - if you take this stuff, you might be able to reduce your LDL cholesterol by a between 3 and 5% !!!!!
I am surprised we are not all running to the shops to buy some.
Betavivo is one of the financial sponsors of diabetes.org. ( edited from co.uk - which of course would not do this - oops my fingers type too fast not connected to brains sometimes )

the research
"Overall, the data suggest that 3g/day of beta-glucan as part of a healthful diet can lower LDL cholesterol by 3-5%."

"Eating one daily serving of Betavivo provides the required 3g of beta-glucan from oats needed to reduce your blood cholesterol. If eaten daily, you will normally see a reduction in your cholesterol levels in about 2-3 months. Eating these as part of your meal helps to reduce the amount of blood glucose your body produces by slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates."

So basically if you spend lots of money for three whole months its possible that you might manage to reduce the one type of cholesterol that doesn't seem to matter much, by an insignificant amount and at the same time, your glucose spike might not be quite so high, just last longer as well. Then you can move onto more of the drugs provided by other sponsors of diabetes.org ( edited again oops ! )There are laws against bribery and corruption in other fields. not so health it seems.

The prime claim of the product is that it has insoluble fibre. That is the lattice work that forms a barrier to which insoluble fibre sticks, which means that IF your diet has a lot of fibre in it THEN that will slow down the digestion of other carbohydrates. Thus eating fibre is effectively an " antidote" to eating carbs. Of course its also follows that if you don't eat carbs, then you don't need the lattice to slow it down. hence the need for a lot of fibre is effectively accompanied by the ingestion of a lot of carbs. Betavivo very helpfully supplies all those carbs requiring the antidote.

Alternatively of course you could focus on the antidote itself (the non solulable fibre) and use that to slow down absorption of the few carbs you allow into your diet.

If you are wanting more fibre in your diet and feel the need to take a supplement ( effectively what is provided) try fybogel £5.99 for 30 days, sugar and gluten free. (compared to £32 for the Betavivo with a handy 50p going to diabetes.org - edited yet again - brain not in gear this morning :) )
Alternatively buy 500g of psyllium husk ( the active ingredient of fibrogel ) for £8.49 and have that last 166 days.

Maybe there is a magic ingredient :) I will be very interested to see if it does work and if it does, if it works any differently from the cheaper options outlined above combined with real foods .

I also suggest you keep testing after the 2 hour mark. It may well be very slow release.

The only way I see this 'working' is for someone recently diagnosed or someone just looking to better their diet, yes it will probably do all that it claims to do if you're coming from having a very large bowl of sugar coated manufactured 'cereal'..........(at a tenth the price of this golden nugget)

Cherry, would you like to check this please, and if necessary edit your comments to the correct URL? I cannot imagine diabetes.co.uk would entertain this product. Do you mean diabetes.org.uk? If I am wrong, I am shocked to the core.

Yup, be wary of some of the 'Low carb' options as manufacturers have latched onto this, it seems. There seems to be a new product every month with 'High Protein, Low Carb' emblazoned on the packet. I stick to stuff that has very few ingredients and is as close to real food as possible.
