Clearing out the cupboard I came across a packet of shredded wheat. Now I used to eat 2 of these every day but since getting diagnosed with T2 I've not eaten any or drank milk,
So with a BG of 5.4 this morning ( I rarely go over 6.0 theses days) I thought what can possibly go wrong, eat them !!! First of all I didn't like the taste, horrible, but more to the point my BG after a hour was 11.6 !!!!!!!!!
I felt awful, quite dizzy, shaking and a throbbing headache fortunatly after another 2 hours my BG is now 6.2.
Never again

I was planning bacon, egg and sausage with tomato why the hell did I have the shredded wheat :mad::mad::mad:

A life lesson to behold.
Glad to hear you came out okay.

I was hoping to find I could tolerate it now, I find these days I can eat lots of things in moderation, which 6 months ago caused my BG to go sky high.

Mornings are more difficult for us as carbs tend to add to any glucose dumped by the liver. Perhaps try again much later in the day, although it sounds like you wouldn't want to!.

Sorry to hear this. I love my shredded wheat, especially on cold days with hot milk. Have to say never felt unwell after eating it.
I think some people can eat Shredded Wheat ok as we are all so different. My T2 husband has Quaker Oats so Simple every morning and his BG levels are fine but many would not touch that

I'd leave it well alone now. Used to be a favourite.

Another' healthy' food which is so 'not healthy' for a lot of us on here.
But most don't know that!
Have you noticed that Beefy isn't spouting about it too much nowadays?

Don't have a meter. Don't check daily as Dr said not too. Last HBC1A was 39.

I don't know anything about the practical side of taking insulin, still diet and exercise at the moment... though my time may come. So if you insulin dependent, you don't test and you're at 39, how does that work? I should ask, does insulin dependent mean you inject insulin or does it have some other meaning.
Many thanks
Hj

Magic, I love learning steps. Ok I know bacon is processed but it doesn't compare to what happens to wheat to get it into a packet.

I think he is diet only. No mention of insulin on his profile. Are you seeing insulin dependent under his avatar? There is a glitch on the forum with this. I don't see it myself.

I was, so possibly misled. Thank you for your note.

Don't have a meter. Don't check daily as Dr said not too. Last HBC1A was 39.

So your doctor advocates waiting until you get an HbA1c done to see what the state of play is? If you're lucky that's once every 6 months to find out what's going on with your BG, if like me you only have an annual check, that would be a year before finding out if things have changed.

I'm very pleased that your last HbA1c was only 39, don't assume things won't change, although I hope they don't, but then you will have to wait until your next HbA1c. Not my preferred option, but we're all different.

Before being diagnosed never touched cereals or had breakfast, after diagnose I only have corn flakes with milk (no sugar of course) each day and small glass of milk to take with my tablets. Tried shredded but taste awful with no sugar...but no adverse effect to bs.

Well what a coincidence I am a 68 year old male I have several non diabetic conditions that definitely caused me to become diabetic via the medications I have to take I was also diagnosed in 2015 though that does not mean that I have been diabetic since 2015 just that I was undiagnosed for some time prior to that.

I was on metformin and was told that testing was not required which of course was nonsense as even NICE recognizes the necessity but will not sanction the cost of supplying meters and strips unless you are on insulin or other BG reducing medication.

So I ignored the nonsensical advice given by my doctor as its my body and my diabetes not his and acquired a meter and have been testing since not relying on blind faith preferring knowledge .

My last HbA1c was 35 as I have the knowledge of what my bloods are doing I am pretty certain of what level my next one should be.

I have eliminated one of the complications I had at diagnosis by tight control of my day to day blood sugar levels.

I prefer to be in control of my condition my self and not hand that control over to some one else.

Well this morning I had 2 sausage, 2 bacon , 2 eggs and 2 plum tomatoes(tinned) not a Shredded wheat in sight !!!
I can understand Sparrow456 why the doc is saying don't test as it can be quite stressfull and addictive ( plus of course if he did say test he would have to supply strips and meter, cost) but I could not have seen the quick turnaround in my bs ( 95 to 39 in 4 months) if it wasn't for my meter. Atfter diagnoses I started to eat " Healthy", wholemeal bread , brown rice, lots of nice fruit , then I bought a meter and seen what effect all that sugar was having on me. I test once a day only now as I know what my body can take. My next Hba1c is in July and I know it will be around 36, I am that confident of what I eat

I prefer to be in control of my condition my self and not hand that control over to some one else.
when someone has anxiety and related conditions, like @Sparrow456 , the control/focus can tip them over the edge. All health issues have to be balanced when choosing a regime we can live with.
